Job Summary
Provide skilled mechanical and supervising work in the maintenance and repair
of automotive and grounds equipment. Assist with coordinating the activities
of the Automotive Shop in the Office of Facilities Management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in supervision of staff; performs major vehicle repairs and
maintenance of a variety of vehicles and equipment, including trucks,
automobiles, golf carts, mules, heavy equipment and various grounds
equipment.
Assist with maintaining the schedule and documentation of inspections and
maintenance records on all University fleet vehicles.
Use of diagnostic procedures using a computer analyzer to detect motor
trouble and analyze motor performance on all equipment.
Assist with maintaining cost records for University fleet vehicles, heavy
equipment and small engine repairs.
Assists with providing quotes, requisitions and pro-card purchases for
tools, materials, supplies and equipment.
Assist with maintaining schedules for weekly and monthly generator fuel
consumption and proper engine operation.
Assist with interviewing prospective employees and recommends full time
appointments; approve time records for Automotive Staff in the absence of
the Automotive Shop Supervisor.
Maintains alternative fuel vehicles to include CNG, LPG and Hybrids.
Testing of campus emergency generators.
Welding and brazing repair duties as needed.
Maintain shop in clean and orderly manner.
Assists with reconciliation of monthly detailed fuel inventory control
records for Petroleum Storage Tank to comply with Texas Commission on
Environmental Quality (TCEQ) regulations.
Assists with maintaining a variety of manual and electronic files and/or
records for the purpose of providing up-to-date reference and complying
with regulatory requirements.
Responds to road calls regarding disabled vehicles 24/7 for the purpose of
performing emergency repair work. Drive a UTA Vehicle. Performs other
duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High School diploma with five (5) years of experience in basic
automotive maintenance and repair or the equivalent experience.
Provide excellent communications skills and customer service.
A valid Texas driver's license required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Basic computer skills, including but not limited to MS Outlook, Work and
Excel.
Thorough knowledge of techniques and procedures of automotive maintenance
and repairs; preventive maintenance methods for automotive equipment.
Proficient in all phases of work performed in the shop.
Ability to keep records and produce reports.
Ability to plan, assign, inspect and supervise the work of automotive
mechanic personnel.
Ability to lift, push, pull bend, stand, sit, kneel and squat.
Preferred Qualifications
Five (5) years experience in automotive repair, including one year
supervisory experience.
Comply with Texas Class C Underground Storage Tank requirements.
ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification preferred.
Previous lead or supervisory experience.
Knowledge with alternative fuel vehicles to include CNG, LPG and Hybrid.
Knowledge in operation of machines and equipment used in automotive
mechanical trade to include but not limited to computer analyzer, carbon
exhaust system, acetylene torch, arc welder and Freon recovery system.
Working Conditions
Work in standard office and automotive shop setting but occasionally involve
exposure to one or more disagreeable elements such as mechanical hazards and
outside weather conditions.
Alertness and careful attention is required to avoid injury to self and
others. Repetitive use of a keyboard.
