  • Role Description IT Services – Audio Visual

Looking for a job with a purpose? Make a difference and join our friendly and experienced in-house team of Audio Visual (AV) professionals, supporting a diverse range of teaching, conferences, and events across the University.

The University of York has set out its vision to become a University for Public Good in its 2023 strategy. IT Services actively supports that commitment. We're looking for individuals who want to be part of making a difference, using industry-leading technology to support our vision and deliver exceptional services. Working at a learning organisation, we offer a collaborative, flexible environment where growth is supported, teams care for each other, and inquiring minds can thrive.

This role sits within the IT Services department, part of the Directorate of Technology, Estates and Facilities (DTEF), which provides outstanding work, study, and research facilities, as well as facilities to enhance the student experience, both on campus and online.

The IT Services department is critical to delivering those objectives, providing infrastructure and services that support all aspects of the customer experience. The Audio Visual team designs, delivers, and manages technology in over 400 teaching, meeting, and performance spaces across campus. They also support a wide range of in-person and hybrid events in these and other venues in the city of York.

    Role

As part of a devoted and supportive team, you will play a crucial role in supporting teaching, learning, and research across the University by providing and maintaining high-quality AV equipment and technical expertise.

The University calendar presents the opportunity to work on a varied range of activities to suit seasonal demand. There is no typical day, but depending on the time of year, activities might include:

  • Delivering, installing, programming, and maintaining a wide range of teaching space technologies.
  • Troubleshooting technical problems and ensuring smooth operation of AV systems.
  • Providing remote or in-person technical advice and support to staff and students, understanding their needs and providing training in using the systems effectively.
  • Designing, setting up, and operating sound, lighting, and video equipment for conferences, presentations, and other events.
  • Supporting hybrid events using Zoom Events and Webinars.
  • Contributing to the development, specification, and implementation of new AV technologies.
  • Experience with configuring AV control systems, using video cameras, camera mixing and streaming systems, or event audio production would be particularly beneficial to this role.

Typical working hours will be 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, 4 or 5 days Monday to Friday. You will be required to cover events on evenings, bank holidays, or weekends when needed. Working patterns are managed through a flexitime system, overtime is available during times of high demand, and we encourage a healthy work-life balance.

This role offers opportunities to learn new technologies or implement your existing skills in a different environment. We are committed to supporting our staff's development and encourage applications from people who can bring new experiences and ideas, with the right attitude and aptitude.

    Reward

We offer a supportive and inclusive working environment for our staff. Everyone at York has access to a range of excellent benefits including:

  • Competitive starting salary with annual salary increments/pay reviews
  • 30 days annual leave (38 days with bank holidays)

  • Staff training and development courses
  • Generous Pension Scheme
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Onsite gym with discounted membership
  • Access to a range of savings on childcare, transport and healthcare, plus shopping discounts and other offers.
  • The above are a selection of benefits available to members of staff at the University. For full details of all our benefits, please see our HR website.

    Skills, Experience & Qualification needed
  • Level 3 qualification. (Qualifications at this level include A levels. Please view the full list). We also welcome applicants with equivalent non-uk qualifications or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience of delivering support from first line to specialist technical resolution
  • Ability to guide non-technical users to the appropriate technical solution
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Ability to drive and follow health and safety best practice
  • Ability to work safely and comfortably at height
  • Ability to work on own initiative while conveying a positive attitude
  • Ability to carry out significant manual handling duties
  • Experience of configuration and fault finding of classroom AV equipment, for example Crestron or Extron video / audio processing & control
