Job Title Athletic Strength & Conditioning Assistant

Full Time/Part Time Full Time FLSA Exempt General Job Description

This is a professional position responsible for assisting in the development, implementation and supervision of the strength and conditioning program for the Department of Athletics. Responsible for assisting in the basic managerial and operational duties of the Wellness Center. Regularly exercises discretion and independent judgment when performing work. Reports to the Director of Athletic Wellness Center.

Essential Job Functions

1. Assists in designing and instructing sport-specific strength and conditioning programs for preseason, in-season and off-season periods. 2. Assists with the operation of the Wellness Center to include maintenance schedules and supervision of student assistants and graduate assistants. 3. Schedules strength and conditioning workouts for intercollegiate teams in the Wellness Center. 4. Works in conjunction with the sports medicine staff to ensure safety in the design and implementation of strength and conditioning programs for student-athletes.

Non-Essential Job Functions

1. Adheres to all applicable NCAA, conference, and university rules and regulations. 2. Attends university, conference, NCAA and other organizational meetings, as assigned. 3. Participates on university committees and task forces, as required. 4. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The individual must possess the following skill and abilities or, using some other form of skills and abilities, be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

1. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures. 2. Knowledge of, or ability to learn, policies, procedures, and guidelines established by the conference and the NCAA. 3. Knowledge of strength development, speed and plyometric training and nutrition. 4. Skill in using standard office equipment and software. 5. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form. 6. Ability to set priorities and complete assignments on time. 7. Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships with coaches, students, staff, and external constituents. 8. Ability to obtain and maintain certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) or strength and conditioning coach certification (SCCC).

Physical Demands Required Education

Bachelor's degree in kinesiology, exercise science, or a related field is required.

Required Experience and Training

One year of related experience is required. Certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) as administered by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and/or strength and conditioning coach certification (SCCC) through the Collegiate Strength Coaches Association (CSCA) is required prior to start date.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in intercollegiate athletic strength and conditioning training is preferred.

Min Pay Rate Mid Pay Rate Salary Information Commensurate with Experience Specific Job Requirements/Duties for this Posting Is Background Check Required? Yes Benefit and Retirement Eligibility

This position is eligible for participation in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) retirement plan, subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
