Electric Power Engineering, located in Skellefteå, Sweden, is a successful group at Luleå University of Technology led by Professor Math Bollen and Professor Sarah Rönnberg.

The current research areas for the group are, power quality in low, medium and high-voltage networks, integration of renewable electricity production and electromobility, smart grids and electricity markets. The group has a good national and international reputation for its leading research, is a world leader in research on power quality, and has a good national reputation for its undergraduate education in power networks. The group's research results have, over the years, received attention from both industry and academia; the volume and breadth of research activity continues to grow. The need for teaching in electric power technology has also grown significantly in recent years, and a number of new initiatives have been taken recently by Luleå University of Technology.

The research subject is looking for an associate senior lecturer who can contribute to the group's further development.

Description of the subject Electric power engineering covers the study of the system for production, transport and consumption of electrical energy. This includes the interaction between the power grid electricity production and electricity consumption.

Tasks involved in the position The employment includes responsibility to:

  • lead a small research group in radiated disturbances originating from equipment related to the conversion of the energy system
  • develop, administer, and teach courses in electric power engineering at the undergraduate (bachelor) and master level
  • supervise doctoral students and students in undergraduate and master education
  • initiate new research projects and secure funding for these
  • During the period of employment, an assistant senior lecturer shall qualify for examination as a senior lecturer and shall normally be involved in the university's education, pedagogical development work and research.

    Eligibility Eligible to be employed as an assistant senior lecturer is a person who has completed a doctoral degree or has a foreign doctoral degree that is considered to correspond to a doctoral degree.

    In the first instance, those considered for employment should have completed a doctoral degree no more than five years before the end of the application period. If there are special reasons, the doctoral degree may have been completed earlier. By special reasons is meant leave due to illness, parental leave, clinical service, positions of trust, or similar circumstances.

    Assessment criteria The following assessment criteria are applied for the position:

    Other assessment criteria (ranked in descending order):

  • be able to teach in Swedish and in English.
  • to have defended their dissertation and/or have other research experience in a field relevant for the group, for example reliability and condition monitoring of components in the power grid.
  • research experience in and/or practical experience of radiated disturbances.
  • a broad interest in research within and around electric power engineering and the ability to adapt their research focus to society's needs.
  • Experience of teaching at all levels is an advantage. Experience in teaching basic methods, such as electrical circuit theory or reliability, and general basic courses in electrical power engineering are considered extra relevant.

    Period of employment For this employment, an employment period of four years applies.

    Promotion to senior lecturer An assistant senior lecturer shall, upon application, be promoted to senior lecturer and a position until further notice. If the applicant is qualified for a position as senior lecturer and in an examination is deemed suitable for such a position, is determined in accordance with the assessment criteria set out below.

    In the examination, it is required that the associate senior lecturer has completed higher education pedagogical education corresponding to 7.5 credits or has acquired corresponding knowledge in another way.

    During the employment period, the associate senior lecturer must also independently, to a considerable extent and with high quality, contribute to the university's research and demonstrate good pedagogical skills.
