Description

The Associate Scientist, in the Lewis Katz School of Medicine's Shriners Hospitals Pediatric Research Center, will primarily be involved in performing electrophysiological studies associated with circuitry involved in recovery after spinal cord injury.

Responsibilities include: conducting electrophysiological studies; examining combination of electrical stimulation and genetic modification of neuronal excitability during rehabilitative training after spinal cord injury research'; various surgical, electrophysiological, behavior and/or microscopic imaging techniques; keeping accurate records of all the experiment; assisting the lab manager with maintaining laboratory equipment in good order; assisting the Principal Investigator with writing manuscripts, research papers and grants; performing animal surgeries and tissue sectioning and immunohistochemistry for analysis of tissue. Supervises junior researchers; maintains laboratory notebook with precise experimental records, protocols, and analyses

Education and Experience:

Ph.D. in neuroscience-related field and at least four (4) years of Postdoctorate experience.Preferably the individual should have electrophysiological, surgical, genetic manipulation, and immunohistological experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills and Abilities:

electrophysiological, surgical, genetic manipulation, and immunohistological experiences Ability to keep accurate records of research performed to NIH standards. Excellent interpersonal skills, along with the ability to interact with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to operate standard office equipment and software including MS office. Demonstrated organizational and prioritization skills, along with the ability to handle multiple tasks in a deadline driven work environment

This is a grant funded position.
