The School of Public Health and Community Medicine, at the Institute of Medicine, conducts extensive education and research in global public health, general practice/family medicine, occupational medicine, environmental medicine, social medicine, medicine use and pharmaceutical policy. We also conduct education and research within nutritional epidemiology, insurance medicine, innovation and utilization, health economics, biostatistics and register epidemiology. We are developing interdisciplinary work on the UN´s Sustainable Development Goals with a focus on SGD 3 (health) and 8 (economical growth).
The Registry Epidemiology research group is now looking for an associate researcher to work in our research team, where we conduct observational studies using epidemiological methods in different disease areas and primarily based on data from health registries of various types in Sweden. A main project within the research group is a national study on COVID-19, SCIFI-PEARL (Swedish Covid-19 Investigation for Future Insights – a Population Epidemiology Approach using Register Linkage), based on a large database of linked register data with regular data updates and is now in intensive analysis phase and research work. The project has several broad objectives, including descriptive analyses of Covid-19 patients and the pandemic, to study risk factors, predictive models, drug epidemiology, vaccine follow-up, and more. The project uses data from several Swedish national registers for all individuals in Sweden. Several studies and sub-projects with different focus are conducted within this overall project, many in collaboration with a broad network of researchers.
DutiesThe main tasks will be to carry out research tasks such as data management and statistical analyses within the SCIFI-PEARL project in collaboration with the project's research group, including in support of an ongoing analysis project on COVID-19 and the risk of fractures. You will also contribute to scientific report writing, applications and similar tasks within the project under the supervision of the research group. The duties also include assisting with data collection and related contacts with authorities, registry centers and data sources in close collaboration with researchers.
QualificationsWe are looking for someone with a master's degree in a relevant subject area such as epidemiology, public health, global health or social medicine with a research focus. You need to have previous experience of working with Swedish register data from the National Board of Health and Welfare and/or national quality registers, and of scientific analyses, as well as presenting results in the form of an essay, report or scientific article. A prerequisite for the position is that you can speak and write English and Swedish well. You need good knowledge of epidemiology and be sufficiently familiar with statistical analyses of epidemiological data, be able to work with programming-based statistical tools, e.g. STATA, R, or SAS. Experience of similar tasks is an advantage. We place great emphasis on personal suitability such as good communication, collaboration and administrative skills.
