Position Overview
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) offers a master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology and has 15 full-time academic faculty and clinical educators. As one of the campuses of the University of North Carolina (UNC) system, NCCU is located in Durham near the Research Triangle Park. The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) is a full-time, campus-based graduate program and features a curriculum that intergrates research, evidence-based clinical experiences, and a focus on serving diverse populations. The Master of Science degree program in speech- language pathology is accredited by the Council of Academic Accreditation (CAA) in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech- Language-Hearing Association. The NCCU Speech, Language, and Hearing Clinic provides speech, language, and hearing evaluations and treatment services for monolingual and bilingual clients from birth through adult age.
Primary Purpose of Position
Responsibilities of this position include instruction, advising, development of an ongoing research program, pursuit of funding opportunities, and service. Additional duties may include some clinical supervision and direction of student research. This position will also enable the program to maintain accreditation by the CAA in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Candidates with expertise in cultural-linguistic diversity, bilingualism, and/or complex communication needs will receive preferential consideration. Other areas of expertise will be considered. Candidates must be aware of the current trends of the profession and have knowledge of developmental disabilities, neurogenic disorders, and disabilities across the life span. A commitment to effective teaching is expected and a capacity for achieving extramural support is desired.
Minimum Education/Experience
Earned doctorate (ABD considered) in Speech-Language Pathology, Speech and Hearing Science, or a related discipline. Candidates must have a Certificate of Clinical Competence in SLP and be eligible for North Carolina Licensure.
Licenses or Certification required by Statute or Regulation
Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from ASHA; possess or eligible for NC Licensure in Speech Pathology.
