    This is an exciting opportunity for a Professor or Associate Professor to engage and advance CQUniversity cropping research in sesame and spice production, emerging cropping in Northern Australia and a variety of other research endeavours in the applicants area of expertise. This position will work with numerous partners across Northern Australia and will provide leadership to the CQU cropping research team.

    In this role you will lead a research program targeted at developing opportunities for cropping in Northern Australia with a focus on the emerging Australian Sesame Industry. The Northern Australian cropping industry is expanding and changing continuously, with new opportunities for northern growers including the introduction of high-value spice and dual-purpose pulse crops into existing farming systems.

    In the development and implementation of these new industries, there will be key tasks that will require advanced solutions, along with adaptable thinking processes including but not limited to:

  • Development of best practice agronomics for sustainable production;
  • Mechanisation practices for broadacre production;
  • Development and selection of advanced genetic lines;
  • Integration within existing farming systems;
  • Education of and extension to growers and industry;
  • Development of new and connection with existing markets through post- harvest supply chains.
  • This position provides a unique opportunity for you as a highly motivated researcher to make a significant impact on the cropping sector as it seeks to expand and diversify across Northern Australia.

    Position Requirements
  • PhD in agriculture, plant sciences, environment or similar discipline
  • Lead a research program and a team of scientists focussed on emerging cropping industries in Northern Australia
  • Conduct independent research – individually or as part of a team – and produce conference papers and high-quality peer-reviewed journal publications, in the FOR codes consistent with CQUni's focus on agricultural research, making significant contributions to research impact assessments.
  • Oversee financial management of research grants.
  • Be involved in professional activities including attendance at conferences and seminars in the field of expertise.
  • Promote research links with CQU internal and external (including international) research collaborators.
  • Prepare research proposal submissions to external funding agencies.
  • Oversee financial management of research grants.

  • Support the development of research policy.
  • Attend meetings associated with research or work of the organisational unit/department/school and play a major role in strategic planning and committee work.
