    Presentation of the scientific field:

    The MEE (Mathematical and Electrical Engineering) department of IMT Atlantique is recruiting within its 2AI (Algorithm-Architecture Interaction) team an Associate Professor in embedded system design. The 2AI team designs original architectures for the integration of specific algorithms in information processing and contributes to the definition and implementation of these algorithms. Its primary application domains are those of digital communications and artificial intelligence. The team's approach is based on the combination of skills in algorithms, architectures and embedded systems.

    The 2AI team aims to develop its activities in the field of sustainable embedded systems design. These systems are at the core of the digital revolution. They constitute an increasingly diverse, innovative and challenging field for applications ranging from mobile terminals to medical devices, including game consoles, automotive, robotics, aeronautics and aerospace. New applications are emerging continuously, with diverse and varied needs in terms of computing power, reliability, security and energy efficiency. The number of these systems and the volume of data to be processed are huge and growing, as shown by the proliferation of connected devices, which should exceed 50 billions by 20301.

    In order for these systems to continue to provide sustainable benefits to our society, it becomes essential to integrate the environmental challenges into their design, development and usage. Addressing these challenges is one of the main strategic orientations of IMT Atlantique. In order to limit the carbon footprint related to the ongoing digital transition (manufacturing of new circuits, energy consumption, recycling), several approaches are envisaged and interest the MEE department. A co-design approach of algorithms and hardware architectures will allow original optimizations and novel mapping of the required resources with respect to the target performances. Dynamic and intelligent adaptation of the system, through flexible and reconfigurable architecture models, constitutes another way of making it energy-aware and capable of adapting to its environment and to changes in applications, thus extending the life cycle of hardware systems. New computing paradigms that break with conventional models, such as in-memory computing, introduce another innovative dimension that complements these approaches by taking advantage of emerging integration technologies to achieve significant gains in energy efficiency and flexibility.

    In this context, the MEE department is looking for a candidate with the expertise to contribute to the design of embedded systems, with the ambition to propose innovative, energy efficient and sustainable solutions. The design techniques and technologies mentioned above are at the core of the proposed position. The privileged application domains concern those of connected devices, but stay open to other application domains of embedded systems which have or could generate synergies with the research themes of the other members of 2AI, MEE and IMT Atlantique.

    With its top 10 ranking among the institutions in the field of engineering in France, IMT Atlantique educates engineers and scientists at the highest level. Regarding teaching activities, the candidate will be able to take part in the engineering education and in particular in the common core courses. As the field of embedded systems meets a strong and growing industrial need, the candidate is expected to invest in teaching related to this field. The candidate is expected also to develop the teaching of sustainable design approaches and tools for embedded systems, within the different programs of IMT Atlantique, in collaboration with the academic team. This teaching can be carried out within disciplinary or transversal activities, such as projects, either existing or to be newly established. He/she will take part in the various training activities in companies (academic tutoring of internships, evaluation). A strong involvement is expected concerning the implementation of innovative teaching methods, with particular attention given to the evolution of the educational programs.

    Skills/Qualifications

    You have strong skills in embedded system design and you are willing to contribute to the associated sustainable design approaches. In the department, as an Associate Professor, you will fulfil the main roles of teaching, research and development in academic and industrial contexts, as well as internationally.

    Your scientific skills and your experience in project management will enable you to develop and participate in partnerships with partners from the economic and academic world, at regional, national and international levels.

    You will contribute to the development and influence of IMT Atlantique through high-level publications, a proactive attitude to contract negotiation and an active contribution to the life of our technological university. Your network of international collaborations will be considered for the international development of IMT Atlantique.

    Your significant experience in designing and supervising teaching activities will allow you to promote learning by confronting learners with multidisciplinary problems. You are particularly interested in the competency- based approach, innovative teaching methods and the diversification of assessment methods.

    Your command of English is strong enough to teach in this language.

    You are really dynamic and know how to develop synergies and manage projects in teaching and research in a multidisciplinary environment.

    The post is based on the Brest campus. Travel in France and abroad is to be expected.
