    This position is located in the School of Engineering. The school has a reputation for innovative course design, the maintenance of a supportive student-centered learning environment and an outstanding research profile. The school offers a range of general and specialist undergraduate and postgraduate courses that are rigorous, attuned to emerging trends and taught by staff at the forefront of their fields.

    Research is a major focus within our School. We have two high performing research centres – the Centre for Railway Engineering and the Centre for Intelligent Systems. We undertake industry-focused research and consultancy work in several areas of significance for regional Queensland and the wider Australian community, including rail, computational intelligence, simulation, automation, power and energy and materials.

    The successful candidate will provide high-quality leadership and management in resource systems/mining engineering, and be responsible for the development, implementation and review of initiatives that are aligned with the strategic priorities, plans, policies, and goals of the School of Engineering and Technology. You will be dedicated to developing and leading research. You will also support academic activities and deliver teaching in the specialist areas of Engineering (Resource Systems), at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. You will be responsible for connecting with industry and industry engagement activities, to support the reform and renewal of activities of the School to grow existing research strengths. You will implement the University's research strategy, promote excellence, and best practice, and support areas needing development.

    Position Requirements
  • Advanced qualifications and/or recognised significant experience in the mining engineering discipline. (PhD or equivalent) is essential.
  • Active participation in the external research environment, including significant research funding programs and national priorities.
  • Leading the School's resource system/mining engineering team.
  • Overseeing the quality, content, and delivery of mining/resources systems course curriculum in collaboration with the Deputy Dean (Learning and Teaching), Head of College and Head(s) of Course.
  • Leading the development of research opportunities in resource systems engineering, including initiating collaborative research programs that result in high-quality publications, and attracting grant funding and higher degree students and associated disciplines.
  • Supervision of research higher degree students, and undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students.
  • Undertaking probationary and performance management processes ensuring you have regular conversations with your staff and provide real-time, positive and constructive feedback to empower staff to continually improve and enhance staff and team performance.
