As Loyola University Chicago embarks on a comprehensive fundraising campaign, we seek an Associate Manager, Strategic Communications for Advancement, to plan and develop written solicitations and collateral communications aimed at securing and stewarding philanthropic gifts. The candidate will use strong, succinct, persuasive story-telling and strategic design to create compelling descriptions of funding opportunities, gift proposals, and stewardship reports, with arguments that resonate with both individual donors and broader audiences.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop information and write persuasive, compelling arguments, proposals, and other campaign materials to secure philanthropic support for university priorities in education, student support, research, clinical practice, and community engagement. The position calls for an assertive, confident self- starter curious about a variety of topics and eager to work with others to build an infrastructure for an ambitious fundraising campaign. We seek a candidate who will:

  • Use research skills resourcefully to understand both audience and subject matter
  • Generate copy with impact, pairing copy strategically with design and visuals
  • Devise innovative solutions within a consistent brand environment
  • Write in the “voice” of an academic while minimizing academic jargon
  • Write quickly and efficiently, observing and managing deadlines
  • Accept that writing in a complex organization involves significant ambiguity and requires multiple layers of review and rewrites
  • Juggle multiple projects and reprioritizations with agility and good time management
  • Self-motivate and persist independently, while working in a team environment
  • Use creativity, tenacity, and fortitude to help resolve unpredictable challenges • Keep abreast of trends that affect both philanthropic and academic audiences • Communicate and collaborate with subtlety across multiple organizational levels

  • Minimum Education and/or Work Experience

    • Bachelor's degree required • 3 or more years of progressive work experience required

    Qualifications

    Minimum Education/Work Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 3 or more years of progressive work experience required; university of other non-profit experience preferred.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • A portfolio of persuasive writing across a variety of subject areas
  • Hands-on experience in using design to advance/underscore verbal arguments • Use of the Adobe Suite to integrate copy with design • Experience in communications, marketing, fundraising, and/or the sciences
