Associate Faculty - Concert Band Director
The Edmonds College Concert Band serves two functions. First, it provides
large ensembles experience and credit for instrumental music students
including those in the Associate of Music Degree program. Second, it provides
an ensemble opportunity for community musicians living in the South Snohomish
County area. The Band rehearses Tuesday evenings from 7-9:30 in the music
department at Edmonds College. One performance per quarter is given in the
Black Box Theater on-campus. Repertoire includes traditional and contemporary
wind ensemble pieces.
The course operates on a quarter by quarter contract. Low enrollment can lead
to cancelation. In the current post-COVID environment, enrollment numbers are
low. Recruiting and program-building are essential elements of this position.
The ensemble is granted a reasonable budget each year for purchasing new music
and hiring guest artists/clinicians.
Minimum Bachelor Degree in Music
Minimum two years experience directing wind ensemble/concert bands
Experience with recruiting high school and community musicians
Bachelor or Masters Degree in Conducting
Experience conducting college-level ensembles
Familiarity with South Snohomish County schools
Established network with professional musicians in Puget Sound region
Ability to teach college-level instrumental private lessons
Professional level performer on band instrument or percussion (jazz is a
Pay is $2,494.48 per quarter for 10 Tuesday evening rehearsals and one
concert. There is also a $1035 stipend per quarter for recruiting and
miscellaneous activities (i.e. concert prep, booking guest musicians, etc)
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
You must document your citizenship or employment authorization within
three days of hire.
Criminal background check . Prior to a new hire, a background
check including criminal history will be conducted. Information from the
background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be
considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to
perform in the position.
All new positions are contingent upon funding.
