Position Summary Information

Basic Function

The Associate Director (AD) is responsible for the implementation of the Excellence in Teaching (ET) portion of the work of Center for Principled Problem Solving and Excellence in Teaching (CPPSET), shares in the delivery of Principled Problem Solving (PPS) courses and programming, and participates in the administrative operations of the Center. The AD directs and develops the ET portfolio which includes a robust faculty development program and campus-wide excellence in educational development initiatives with a focus on experiential or engaged teaching and learning. The AD contributes directly to the PPS Scholars Program and develops and teaches PPS 3-week experiential courses on a regular basis. The AD actively participates in Center budgeting, planning, communications, as well as the work of the Center's Board of Advisors. The AD collaborates closely with the college administrators, faculty leadership and campus and student programs in making the work of the Center effective across the campus and beyond. The CPPSET Associate Director is an educational support faculty position.

Duties and Responsibilities

Primary responsibility for the Center's ET efforts which include but are not limited to: Guiding and administering the college's existing faculty development program undertaken in collaboration with the Faculty Development and Excellence in Teaching Committee Recruiting faculty and eligible staff members for participation in the college's educational development opportunities Developing innovative teaching and learning programming for faculty, students, and staff including regular workshops in the academic year and summer as appropriate Recruiting and supporting faculty members in developing PPS courses or course components Directing the Center's Summer PPS Faculty Seminar in experiential learning Support faculty interested in writing and publishing scholarship in the field of engaged teaching and learning Support faculty interested in applying to external grants and awards to support their engaged teaching and scholarship Help develop and support PPS Experience minors Managing the ET budget including faculty and PPS grants Managing the ET web-based communications and application platforms

Share responsibility with the Director of CPPSET for the Principled Problem Solving Scholars Program (PPSSP), including some teaching, group project support, scholar recruitment and selection, etc.

Develop and teach one 3-week PPS course per year individually or in collaboration with a Center or faculty colleague

Teach introductory PPS or Ethical Leadership courses on an occasional or as needed basis

Assist the Director in developing and updating CPPSET communications print and online content

Assist the Director in supporting CPPSET Board of Advisors communications and meetings

Collaborate with the Director in CPPSET strategy, planning, and program development

Represent the CPPSET with internal and external constituents in advancing the work of the Center and the influence of PPS and Ethical Leadership programming

Develop and maintain mutually beneficial collaborations with community and civic partnerships both locally and globally to enhance the college's civic engagement mission and enhance community-engaged learning opportunities for students

Develop assessment and evaluation plans for the Center programming and also college-wide initiatives

Serve on the Faculty Development and Excellence in Teaching Committee and participate in additional committee work as needed and at the direction of the Director

Supervise CPPSET student fellows and workers

May teach in non-PPS departments as appropriate in coordination with the CPPSET Director and the Chief Academic Officer and with the standard compensation for faculty course overloads

Serve on student thesis and senior contribution committees as needed

Other responsibilities as assigned

Reports to the Director of the Center or Principled Problem Solving and Excellence in Teaching

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. in a relevant academic field strongly preferred. At least five years of higher education academic leadership and administration, college teaching and course development, and academic programming. Familiarity with current literature and trends in both traditional and applied teaching and learning areas. Demonstrated ability to work successfully with campus constituents and community partners. Successful budget management, grant writing and conference/events planning experience desired. Experience in multicultural or international pedagogy and settings strongly desired. Strong written and oral communication skills necessary.
