Title of Position Associate Director of Academic Support Programs Posting Location Abilene, Texas Department University Access Programs Employee Class Exempt Full-time Basic Responsibilities
A. Oversee and manage academic programs and services including strategic planning
B. Maintain and report each programs outcomes and measurements
C. Develop academic support programs and foster learning communities
D. Promote and engage interest in the Supplemental Instruction Program from faculty, advisors, and students.
E. Recruit, train, and supervise supplemental instruction leaders and tutors
F. Coordinate tutoring services
G. Maintain and manage the certification of programs
H. Oversee academic testing including accommodations testing services for students with disabilities
Essential Duties
A. Oversee and manage academic programs and services including strategic planning
1. Evaluate student academic gaps and coordinate resources with internal and external resources and offices
2. Strategic planning of academic support programs and services
3. Give program presentations and policy development
4. Hire, train, and supervise professional staff, student staff, and program interns
5. Evaluate and review pilot program protocol for efficacy
6. Review outcomes with faculty to ensure course objectives are met through SI sessions and tutoring.
B. Maintain and report each programs outcomes and measurements
1. Collect attendance and course grades for attendees and non-participants in SI sessions.
2. Track student tutoring attendance and supplemental data
3. Create comparative assessment reports of SI session attendance and course grades.
4. Report retention data for each program's assessment
5. Engage with Office of Institutional Effectiveness to provide measurements and outcomes for each program
C. Develop academic support programs and foster learning communities
1. Coordinate overall strategic vision with UAP leadership.
2. Implement and oversee SI Program.
3. Engage with campus partners to inform program practices and needs
4. Develop and maintain a training program for student staff.
5. Maintain websites and utilize other methods to inform the campus community about programs and services.
6. Identify areas for growth and assist in strategic planning.
D. Promote and engage interest in the Supplemental Instruction Program from faculty, advisors, and students.
1. Consult with course instructor for course content and student support.
2. Solicit and analyze SI student and participant feedback and provide collaborative learning strategy sessions.
3. Support student learning through systematic collaboration through individual meetings with SI leaders, students, and faculty.
4. Identify learning gaps in course content and provide instructional strategies to improve academic performance.
5. Work with UAP leadership and Provost to identify historically difficult courses and engage related departments in an SI plan to support students.
E. Recruit, train, and supervise tutors and supplemental instruction leaders
1. Coordinate the SI leader selection process with faculty; facilitate hiring process
2. Provide weekly SI group training on study skills, diversity, SI activities, and SI planning
3. Provide semester training to new and returning tutors and SI Leaders
4. Design and present tutoring training sessions
5. Track and monitor tutor progress and certification
6. Conduct evaluations and observations and provide feedback to SI leaders and tutors each semester
7. Assess the effectiveness of training to ensure all standards are being met
F. Coordinate tutoring services
1. Assess student needs
2. Connect students with appropriate tutor and service
3. Follow-up and monitor tutoring sessions
4. Coordinate with staff and faculty to meet student needs and bridge academic gaps
5. Manage individual, group, and drop-in tutor scheduling
G. Maintain and manage the certification of programs
1. Maintain program CRLA compliance
2. Assess program's effectiveness to meet CRLA standards of tutoring
3. Attend CRLA yearly conference for updates and continuous effectiveness
H. Oversee academic testing including accommodated testing services for students with disabilities
1. Assist with proctoring as needed
2. Provide support and guidance to faculty and testing staff
3. Maintain technology and software to meet test requirements
4. Coordinate with ACU PD to ensure accurate and timely camera monitoring

1. Accurate keyboarding skills, computer skills, and operating skills of fax machine and copy machine
2. Ability to communicate effectively with peers and superiors
3. Time organizational skills
4. Computer software skills including Microsoft Word, Access, and Excel
5. Extensive interpersonal skills including ability to be courteous and confidential
6. Ability to work with individuals and groups
B. Training Modules Required: this year
1. Testing Software (New/Updates)
2. Continuing professional develop training as appropriate
3. Training in the use of department database program and other programs used in service delivery and database maintenance
4. CRLA conference and/or webinar
Qualifications
A. Professional
1. Master's degree required in related field
2. Five years experience in an academic environment
3. At least two years experience in administering and proctoring exams
4. Experience supervising a team
5. Knowledge of intervention strategies for students with learning disabilities
