Master's or equivalent degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or
related field.
Progressively responsible experience with student engagement and/or
student leadership and service programs or a related field.
Experience in interpretation and/or enforcement of institutional policies
and procedures.
Ability to coordinate a variety of work activities and work as part of a
team.
Availability to work nights and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supervising full time or graduate staff in a higher education
setting.
Experience with program development and oversight including large scale
campus programming. Experience with development of training and
development opportunities for student organizations and leadership
development.
Experience with a student organization management system and/or engagement
platform.
Experience in assessment practices, specifically related to program
planning and student learning.
Experience creating and executing on-boarding and continuous training
components for graduate assistant and/or professional staff.
Job Description
The Associate Director for Leadership and Service, in the department of
Student Involvement and Engagement (SI&E) is responsible for developing and
implementing leadership and service programs to support a campus-wide culture
that centers student involvement, engagement, sense of belonging and student
success. The Associate Director is responsible for designing, implementing,
and managing comprehensive educational leadership programs that enhances
student learning and supports career-readiness skills development and
community service, and volunteering programs that emphasize civic and social
responsibility. In addition, the Associate Director will also support
compliance functions that include risk management education and expressive
activity. This position will report directly to the AVP & ED for Student
Involvement and Engagement.
Job Duties
Leadership Development and Scholarship Program Administration (30%)
Oversee development, implementation, and assessment of leadership
development programs and initiatives.
Support leadership development initiatives for student organization
leaders and advisors.
Lead the development of a leadership development paradigm and curriculum
to inform leadership development and career-ready skill development across
the division.
Oversee the planning and implementation of the department's scholarship
programs, which include the Top Scholars Program and Texas Leadership
Scholars Program.
Oversee and manage leadership endowments including the Veronica Gonzales
Leadership Institute Endowed Scholarship.
Community Service and Volunteer Programs (30%)
Oversee the development, implementation, and assessment of community
service and volunteering programs.
Identify key stakeholders, both internally and externally, that will be
essential in sustaining and growing community service and volunteering
programs.
Manage community service and volunteering hours submission processes and
procedures.
Departmental Responsibilities (20%)
Serve as a member of the departmental leadership team in making decisions,
developing goals, and strategic direction for the unit.
Manage departmental assessment to inform decision making in line with
divisional and departmental priorities.
Serve on the SI&E Assessment Committee.
Develop and lead a leadership and service advisory group.
Serve as a member of the Expressive Activities Team and as a resource
related to expressive activity, Texas Senate Bill 18, and associated
federal law.
Oversee and manage departmental endowments.
Administration and Budget Management, and Supervision (10%)
Provide leadership, supervise, and professional development support for
one coordinator and one graduate assistant.
Manage budgets for functions and programs under positional leadership and
assist in the development of the overall departmental budget.
Plan, in coordination with the AVP & ED and unit leaders, comprehensive
training and professional development for professional staff, graduate
assistants and student workers across the department.
Other Duties (10%)
Participate in departmental programs and projects designed to support the
mission and goals of the university, division, and department.
Serve on committees and task forces, as assigned.
Other duties as requested or required, whether or not specifically
mentioned in this job description.
