Pay Band: Job Summary:

The associate director for digital strategy develops tactics and copy for multiple channels and platforms such as ONU's website, social media accounts, e- newsletters, videos and emails. The position also establishes strategies for engaging with audiences through these channels as well as develops standards for how different types of content should be created and formatted. The strategist knows how to tell a story, conducts market research to identify emerging trends, works with cross-functional colleagues and understands digital measurement metrics. The ideal candidate will be familiar with traditional and digital marketing channels, content marketing and distribution platforms, and audience analytics.


The associate director for digital strategy oversees several chief content tasks include participating in a creative team, providing and implementing brand and marketing content, and working independently on various narrative projects.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Create and implement a multichannel communications plan that will support all University audiences while simultaneously serving as lead clearinghouse and coordinator for communications initiatives at the school- and college-level;
  • Develop and execute communications strategies and policies;
  • Provide leadership and expertise regarding various forms of communications including electronic and print publications, CMS platforms, web sites, solicitations, videos and social media;
  • Serve as primary writer and editor for all communications including but not limited to: magazines, newsletters, invitations, event programs, fundraising, campaigns, etc.;
  • Directly oversee content development, design and distribution of e-marketing materials; proofing/copyediting all emails to ensure consistency with messaging and appearance;
  • Collaborate with media relations on timely and accurate news content;
  • Supervise multimedia/social media manager
  • Required Skills:

  • Proven track record of success in developing and implementing strategic marketing plans
  • Strong analytical aptitude
  • Ability and experience to design and implement integrated communication programs that encompass both traditional and new media outlets
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, marketing, English or communications preferred .
  • Five or more years of writing and editing experience.
  • Experience with website and CMS communications platform is a plus.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five or more years of experience in higher education marketing
