Position Title Associate Chair, Department of Physician Assistant Campus Department 1606-College of Health Sciences-Master Physician Assistant Type of Position Administration Job Summary

Assists the PA Department chair to initiate and direct the day-to-day policies and procedures of the Department of Physician Assistant Education, which aids the faculty and staff in performing their duties and the students in reaching their potential. Teaches in the PA program. Develops and collects data regarding educational outcome measures for all programs in the Department.

Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

1. Knowledge of the laws and regulations relating to the practice of Physician Assistants.

2. Knowledge of the skills and tasks that may be performed by a primary care Physician Assistant.

3. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.

4. Ability to handle detail-oriented projects.

5. Ability to effectively interact with administration, faculty, staff, students and health professionals.

6. Organizational skills necessary for prioritizing workload.

7. Ability to initiate and complete projects.

Required Qualifications

1. EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited PA Certificate Program. Masters degree required. Earned doctorate degree (or in progress) preferred.

2. EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 2 years clinical experience as a Physician Assistant and 4 years full-time teaching experience in a PA or related program.

3. LICENSURE: Physician Assistant License. NCCPA Certification. California Driver License.

4. PREFERENCES: Preference will be given to individuals with 2 years administrative experience.

Monday through Friday, 8-5 PM, weekends and evenings as necessary

1. Assist in all administrative duties needed to keep the PA Program running smoothly.

2. Assist in the preparation of the yearly budget.

3. Actively participates in College of Health Sciences and other University committees.

4. Prepares student semester schedules.

1. Updates the PA Handbook and PA section of the University Catalog.

2. Performs research and/or scholarly activity.

3. Provides instructions to students as part of the PA curriculum.

4. Counsels students with personal/academic concerns and refers them as necessary.

1. Evaluates and monitors progress of the program.

2. Conducts faculty workshops as needed.

3. Coordinates team teaching responsibilities.

4. Prepares clear and concise written reports (Self Study, Grants and Progress reports).

1. Works closely with the faculty, staff, and students of other departments in College-related activities.

2. Provide recommendations for PA instructors and staff for employment as needed.
