Job Description:


This position is in the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences in the College of Agricultural, Life and Natural Sciences. The position is a full-time 9 month faculty position. 50%/50% Teaching/Research in Horticulture/Turfgrass. The rank and tenure-status of position is negotiable based on qualifications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and support integrated consumer horticulture and turfgrass programs that include sustainable management of home landscapers, ornamental, fruit, and vegetable productions; address the educational needs of home/landowners, community gardeners, school gardens, and the general public.
  • Supervision of undergraduate senior projects, graduate student research, student advisements, teach undergraduate and graduate level courses.
  • Participate in scholarly activities (e.g. applied research, grant writing, publications, presentations), and publish in peer-reviewed journals as part of his/her professional development, acquire extramural funding in support of his/her research, and regular participation in other scholarly activities.
  • Initiate and coordinate at the AAMU Winfred Thomas Agricultural Research Station (WTARS), small plots and field trials to evaluate commercial horticulture.
  • Participate on department, college, and university committees, developing strong collaborative relationships with local and regional growers, plus other activities as required.
  • Requirements:

    Minimum Position Requirements (including years of experience, certifications, licenses, etc.):

  • An earned doctorate (foreign equivalent acceptable) in horticulture, plant science, agronomy or a related discipline
  • A productive records of teaching and scholarly activity deemed to strengthen current department initiatives regarding the integration of best practices principles and methodologies in coursework, laboratory and field activities is strongly preferred.
  • The ability to collaborate on applied research with faculty across the College and University is desirable.
