This position is responsible for advising students on degree/program requirements and course scheduling. Maintains and updates student status records, transcript evaluations, degree plan audits, and graduation applications.

Job Duties


This position is responsible for advising students on degree/program requirements and course scheduling. Maintains and updates student status records, transcript evaluations, degree plan audits, and graduation applications.


Advising Policy: 1. Advises students regarding degree requirements and academic issues. 2. Approves/disapproves student requests regarding deadlines, policies & procedures (i.e. duplications, concurrent enrollment, P/NP, overload, study abroad, etc). 3. Evaluates progress to graduation. 4. Advises students on academic alert, probation & suspension.


Advising Communication with Students: 1. Corresponds with students concerning questions about degree requirements, transfer hours, etc via various forms of communication when the student is not present. 2. Provides information and answers questions for prospective students and parents. 3. Assists students with exploring other degree options or majors when necessary. 4. Advises students on ways to enhance and market their degree utilizing career-related resources. 5. Provides appropriate referrals to online and campus resources. 6. Serves as on-call advisor for the office serving all CLASS majors by answering phone calls, emails and seeing walkins and/or assisting at the front desk on an as-needed basis.


Advising Documentation: 1. Advises students in selecting courses for future terms using Advising Record. 2. Documents advising-related work in Salesforce.


Degree Planning: 1. Prepares, updates and checks degree audits, prioritizing VA, ROTC, Financial Aid and other exceptional degree audits. 2. Evaluates transfer work to determine degree audit applicability. 3. Confers with supervisor and faculty regarding course substitutions/memos. Makes changes in degree audits when discrepancies or substitutions occur.


Graduation Applications: 1. Processes graduation applications. Confers with supervisor when problems or questions arise before contacting students. 2. Advises students when problems or questions arise. Informs them of discrepancies, GPA and other requirements.


Orientations: 1. Assists & problem solves in College sessions. 2. Evaluates transfer course application toward University Core and CLASS Requirements. 3. Advises students at departmental advising sessions and registration as needed. 4. Conducts orientation presentations as needed.


Advising Related Responsibilities: 1. Assists in updating both three- and four-year plans, catalog copy and major-specific articulation guides. 2. Researches and recommends approval/disapproval of equivalency requests from Registrar's Office. 3. Participates in recruitment programs for targeted populations (Eagle Landings, Preview Day, etc). 4. Reviews majors/degree program encoding in U.Achieve.


Leadership: 1. Assists with projects and programs as needed.


Cooperation & Professionalism: 1. Promotes good will with students and is effective in handling a variety of student situations. 2. Works in a professional cooperative manner with faculty and staff across campus. 3. Demonstrates an ability to be an effective team member of the office by assisting others when needed. 4. Performs all duties in a professional manner. 5. Participates in functions & events outside of the normal work schedule. 6. Greets all office visitors in a friendly, cooperative and helpful manner. 7. Participates in professional development opportunities.
