Position Summary

The primary location of this position is the main Cullowhee, NC campus.

Primary responsibilities include overseeing writing tutoring and consultations in the WaLC and coordinating the Writing Fellows program. The Associate Director recruits, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates graduate and undergraduate tutors and Writing Fellows; teaches tutor training courses each semester; recruits faculty to participate in the Writing Fellows program; and manages the Writing Fellows budget.

The Associate Director also works closely with the WaLC Director and Assistant Director to support the mission and purpose of the WaLC and to develop and offer common training opportunities for all WaLC tutors (writing tutors, Writing Fellows, course tutors, and academic skills consultants, and SI Leaders).

Additional responsibilities of the Associate Director include writing and maintaining print/online resources for students, assisting the director with program assessment, and coordinating with graduate programs and the Graduate School on supervision and evaluation of graduate teaching assistants. Candidates should possess excellent oral and written communication skills, teaching ability, organizational skills, and technological literacy. Candidates should be able to work both independently and collaboratively.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's Degree in English, Writing & Rhetoric, or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience teaching writing and/or working in a university-level writing center is preferred.
