Job Description Summary
The Department of Geological and Mining Engineering and Sciences at Michigan Technological University invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor position in Geology. Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)
Regularly teach departmental courses at the graduate and upper division levels. Advise undergraduate and graduate students. Serve as the Departmental Graduate Program director. Engage in an extensive range of departmental and university service activities. Be active in academic and educational research. Foster and contribute to a collaborative DEIS culture within the workplace. Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work and commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work.
Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)
Ph.D. in Geology
Required Experience (minimum requirements)
Demonstrated ability to teach effectively at the graduate level in the disciplinary area. Experience in teaching graduate courses in scientific communication. Experience in the development of graduate certificates. Experience in managing graduate assistantships and graduate program assessments. Experience with recruiting undergraduate and graduate students. Experience with laboratory safety.
Desirable Education and/or Experience
Experience in curriculum development and assessment.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities (minimum requirements)
Strong interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse student, faculty, and community populations. Demonstrated experience in academic and/or educational research in the disciplinary area.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities
Experience in using learning management systems (LMS) such as Canvas by Instructure
Language, Mathematics and/or Reasoning Skills
Work Environment and/or Physical Demands
The work environment is that of a typical office and/or classroom setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
