Assistant Service Manager, Research Services/Library Assistant I, Research Services (2 posts) in the University Libraries (Ref.: 520143)

We are looking for Assistant Service Manager (at the rank of Executive Officer/Library Assistant I)/Library Assistant I to join the Research Services of the University Libraries to provide quality service for Learning and Research Services and/or other functional area(s).

Post 1: Assistant Service Manager, Research Services (at the rank of Executive Officer/Library Assistant I)

The Role

The appointee will report to the Head, Scholarly Communication and Research Services, being accountable for maintaining the University's research information management system in the areas of research output record management, providing research support services which include but not limited to working with other colleagues to develop and promote the library's information literacy programmes, explore the emerging information literacy and data literacy tools or platforms and create web-based research guides and e-learning objects.

Qualifications and Qualities

  • A Bachelor's degree and a recognized professional qualification in library and information science (e.g. M.L.S. or equivalent) OR a Master's degree or an advanced degree relevant to the position
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in academic libraries for Bachelor's degree and at least 1 year of such experience for Master's degree, OR an equivalent combination of relevant experience in working with learning and research processes.
  • Knowledge of research life cycle, trends and developments in library information instruction services
  • Working experience in the institutional research information management system or institutional repository
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated good service attitude and skills
  • Highly motivated and proactive and willing to learn new technologies and tools
  • Applicants with less experience in learning and research processes may be considered for appointment at the rank of Library Assistant I.

    Post 2: Library Assistant I, Research Services

    The Role

    The appointee will report to the Head, Scholarly Communication and Research Services. He/She will work on the library scholarly communication and research support platforms including designing, developing, and deploying web products with the latest technology to analyze and visualize data, and perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications and Qualities

  • A Bachelor's degree and a recognized professional qualification in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Management or related disciplines
  • Good knowledge in JavaScript (such as D3.js, React.js etc.), HTML5, and CSS3
  • Programming experience in Python or R
  • Knowledge in BI tools (such as Power BI) is an advantage
  • solid project experience in web service/data visualization is preferred
  • Willing to learn new technologies and tools
  • What We Offer

    The appointment will be made on fixed-term full-time contract for 2 years, to commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 10% of basic salary. Other benefits include annual leave and medical benefits.
