The position requires contributions to early childhood education research in particular ways. You will conduct research on policy analysis, field research, and technical assistance to inform ECE policy and practice for dual language learners. The position requires dissemination of research findings through publications (especially peer-reviewed journal articles), products, and presentations to appropriate audiences, which might include researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and parents. You are expected to author funding proposals as PI or co-PI and to engage on funded projects are already underway. You will act in a supervisory role for undergraduate and graduate student research assistants and junior faculty working on the projects for which you have a lead investigator role. A doctoral degree in a discipline related to Early Childhood Education is required. This position will involve ECE conceptual knowledge and research expertise to design and oversee research, interpret findings, summarize research and interface with elected and appointed state leaders, ECE teachers and administrators and philanthropic partners.

Minimum Education and Experience

• Doctoral degree in early childhood education or related field.

Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Doctoral degree in early childhood education or related field. • Significant experience in key personnel roles in research projects with capacity for initiating, maintaining, and enhancing research in early childhood education. • Excellent writing and editing skills with experience writing grant applications and budgeting grants. • Knowledge of pre-k policy and implementation, and of state pre-k, Head Start and child care structures & regulatory requirements with proven expertise in dual language learners and bilingual early education. • Direct experience providing professional development to coaches and teachers in support of young dual language learners. • Experience conducting structured classroom observations in bilingual classrooms and administering child assessments with Spanish-speaking children and overseeing field data collection. • Excellent communication and organization skills. • Spanish bilingual.

Equipment Utilized

• Computer fluency including: creating and utilizing excel spreadsheets, preparing and delivering PowerPoint presentations, conducting zoom meetings and trainings and statistical analyses packages.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Travel throughout US and occasionally to other countries to conduct/participate in field research and conferences/meetings/trainings. • Design/conduct/participate in virtual conferences/meetings/trainings as needed.

Overview

Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey is seeking a Non-Tenure Track Research Assistant Professor for The National Institute for Early Education Research (NIEER) at the Rutgers Graduate School of Education. NIEER conducts and communicates research to support high-quality, effective early childhood education from infancy through the primary grades. Our aim is to stimulate policymaking that will enhance children's learning, development, and well- being. We collaborate with a network of local, state, national, and international leaders to design, conduct, and disseminate rigorous research, evaluation, and policy analysis. NIEER also helps prepare the next generation of inspirational leaders and researchers in early education.

Statement

The Assistant Research Professor in Dual Language Early Education Policy Research will work directly with NIEER's co-directors on research in collaboration with university and community partners. The professor will engage in research on policy analysis, field research, and technical assistance to inform policy and practice with a special emphasis on bilingual early education. The ideal candidate will have a doctoral degree in a discipline related to Early Childhood Education (ECE) with expertise in bilingual education policy and evaluation. This position will involve ECE conceptual knowledge and research expertise to design, conduct, oversee, and interpret research and to interface with elected and appointed officials as well as philanthropic partners. In addition, the candidate would need relevant research experience in the ECE field and demonstrated knowledge and expertise in ECE practice and policy including but not limited to direct experience in supporting teachers of dual language learners.
