The Assistant Research Professor should hold a PhD degree in microbiology or related field with expertise in the antimicrobial discovery.

Required Related Experience

The appointee should have at least three years of post-doctoral research experience in a relevant research area.

Job Summary

Multi-drug resistance is a significant and growing concern in both human and veterinary medicine. The Department of Veterinary Science seeks to increase its expertise in this area by recruiting a faculty member with relevant experience in the development of antimicrobials and other novel therapeutics. This additional expertise in infectious disease therapeutics is needed to further strengthen an area of research that has traditionally been a major strength of this department. The proposed faculty position allow the department to maintain its competitive edge both nationally and internationally and enhance our chances of securing additional extramural support in this important.

Given the COVID-19 pandemic, and the need to protect our university community including our students, staff, faculty and visitors, the University of Kentucky is requiring COVID-19 vaccination for all new hires prior to starting employment. Therefore, as of October 18, 2021, all new hires prior to their first day of employment must submit appropriate documentation showing, i) completion of the first vaccination against COVID-19, or ii) completion of the full vaccination series against COVID-19, or iii) approved exemption (medical contraindications or a sincerely held religious belief) through the formal exemption process from the COVID-19 vaccination requirement. For those employees who have completed the first vaccination against COVID-19 prior to their first day of employment, the second vaccination (if applicable) must be completed following the vaccination recommended schedule to be considered fully vaccinated.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

The appointee should have proven ability to design and conduct original research studies and success in publishing his/her research findings in peer- reviewed scientific journals. An important consideration in selecting the successful candidate is demonstrated evidence of the individual's ability to develop productive research collaborations. Emphasis will also be placed upon the person's aptitude for, and interest in, participating in the training and education of undergraduates and graduate students.

Does this position have supervisory responsibilities? No Preferred Education/Experience

Additional related research experience with infectious disease of the horse is highly desirable.
