Position descriptionThe Space Sciences Laboratory (SSL) at the University of California, Berkeley, is seeking applications for an Assistant Research Physicist to work on a CubeSat project focused on investigating particle acceleration and high- energy processes in solar flares and other eruptive phenomena in the high solar atmosphere. The successful candidate will lead the development and coordination of the Solar HARd x-ray Polarimeter (SHARP) instrument, which is funded to fly onboard the Solar PolArization and Directivity X-Ray Experiment (PADRE) 12 U CubeSat. In addition, the candidate will conduct observational analysis of high-energy phenomena at the Sun using data from past and current missions.
The candidate will work collaboratively with national and international partners, and will be expected to present their findings at national and international conferences, as well as publish their results in leading journals. The ideal candidate should have expertise in solar high-energy instrumentation and/or analysis of solar eruption observations.
