Reporting to the Associate Provost, the Assistant Provost works inclusively
and closely with colleges, departments/schools, Faculty and Academic
Resources, and other offices and committees in coordinating and leading
assigned projects related to the roles, career advancement, and growth of all
faculty. Primary responsibilities include implementation and review of the
faculty workload policy, process and reporting, reappointment reviews of
tenure-track faculty, and implementation of special studies and analytical
research to create innovative solutions and recommendations that advance
services and support of all faculty at Texas State.
The Assistant Provost also manages projects to improve the effectiveness and
efficiency of operations related to faculty, maintains confidentiality, and
exercises good judgment in alignment with the university's mission, shared
values, and strategic goals. The position begins spring 2022, with appointment
at 100 percent FTE in fall and spring semesters. Summer assignment is
negotiated based on workload and office needs. The position is open to current
university employees only.
Oversee faculty workload policies, process, and reporting functions.
Oversee the annual reappointment processes for tenure-track faculty.
Conduct special studies, such as policy impact analysis, financial
analysis, and reviews of practices at peer and aspirant institutions.
Analyze information, seek input, and use actionable data to provide
recommendations on initiatives, policies, and outcomes related to faculty
support and success.
Serve on, chair, and facilitate teams and committees as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
An earned terminal degree in academic discipline from an accredited
A record of excellence in scholarship, teaching, and service commensurate
with tenured appointment at the rank of professor by September 1, 2022.
Experience as a department chair/school director, interim department
chair/school director, or associate department chair/school director.
Demonstrated analytical skills.
Evidence of effective communication skills.
Four or more years as department chair/school director.
Proficiency in accessing and using university data.
