The Department of Dance at UW-Milwaukee offers the following programs of study: BA in Dance, BFA in Performance and Choreography, MFA in Dance, a Dance Performance Minor, a Somatics Minor, and a Pilates Certificate.

Job Summary

The Department of Dance in the Peck School of the Arts is hiring an innovative dance artist, collaborator, and educator with embodied expertise in African and/or Latin Diaspora dance forms to teach across our curricula. The new faculty member will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Contemporary African and/or Latin Diasporic dance practices as well as other related courses through the lens of their expertise such as: composition, improvisation, student repertory creation, and/or dance history. The candidate should demonstrate a commitment to equity and inclusion in their teaching, and an ability to make cross-disciplinary connections in their course content.

Responsibilities of dance faculty include directing faculty/guest concerts, creating new courses, and contributing to department, college, and university service that includes recruitment, outreach, mentorship, advising, and faculty governance. In addition, faculty will maintain academic and/or creative research and professional engagement with local, state, and national associations. Our faculty engage in dance practice, scholarship, and mentorship that is committed to interdisciplinary research, community engagement, and social justice. Our innovative curriculum integrates multiple dance disciplines and somatic practices, creating a learning environment that prioritizes a balance of body and mind knowledge with informed, creative practice and expression. The faculty strive to locate our research and curricular material in socio-cultural and historical contexts. The Department of Dance produces four dance concerts per year and mentors approximately 55 undergraduate dance majors, 12 graduate students, and 35 dance minors. Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have: • A graduate degree (MFA in Dance or relevant field, and/or MA Dance Education or relevant field with professional equivalent,) by the start of the appointment • At least 1-year (2 semesters of full course delivery) of teaching in higher education • Ample experience teaching African and/or Latin Diasporic dance forms • A professional portfolio that demonstrates recent and ongoing innovations in choreographic and creative research in area of expertise

Preferred Qualifications

Highly qualified candidates may also possess: • Experience teaching African and/or Latin Diasporic dance forms in higher education • An artistic practice that emphasizes one or more of the following: interdisciplinary research, community engagement, and/or social justice • Experience teaching dance history or dance appreciation through a multicultural lens • Experience in teaching and/or applying one or more of the following: dance technologies, K-12 dance education and certification, application of somatic movement practices, or critical dance studies
