Position Overview

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The primary purpose of the Public Administration Department is to deliver high quality educational experiences in the field of public administration. This includes conducting quality instruction, research and service to Southeastern United States with a global perspective.

The Mission of the NCCU Masters of Public Administration program is to train leaders in public service by enhancing their knowledge, skills, and abilities through scholarship and professional development with a global lens. We advance diversity through truth and service to promote social equity.

Primary Purpose of Position

As a core tenure-track faculty member in the Department of Public Administration, the primary purpose of this position is to support the teaching, research, and service mission of the department, and specifically the Master of Public Administration program. As a core faculty member, this position delivers core and elective courses; direct capstones including internships, theses, and certifications; conducts research in appropriate fields; serves the department, college, university, and community; and participates in other work as directed by the Department Chair in service of the Department mission.

This position would join the Department of Public Administration faculty and instructors in this work, which includes 7 full-time faculty with terminal degrees in the discipline, teaching full course loads and engaging in service and research, as well as with the instructional support of adjunct instructors.

The successful candidate will have experience in teaching graduate-level courses relevant to public administration and the MPA core courses, especially such as Personnel Management, Principles of Public Administration, and Finance and Budgeting.

Ideal candidates will have professional and academic experience in the Public Administration program's areas of specialization, especially human resources and non-profit management, but also may include public health policy, urban planning, and law and society. The successful candidate will demonstrate active research, grantsmanship, and student mentoring. Community service is a core value of the Department of Public Administration at NCCU.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching, research, and academic service in Public Administration and a commitment to the NASPAA standards of public service education.

Minimum Education/Experience

This position requires an earned PhD in public administration or a related field; graduate-level teaching experience in public administration-related courses; and demonstrate research activity in a relevant field.
