Given this context, the Faculty of Business invites applications for a nine- month tenure-track Assistant Professor of Accounting in the College of Arts, Sciences, Business, and Education. The start date for this position is August 2023. Job responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses; serving as a faculty advisor; mentoring and coaching students inside and outside of the classroom; producing scholarly research that results in publications in peer-reviewed journals or books within the discipline or allied field area or within peer-reviewed journals that promote the teaching and learning of the discipline; facilitating presentations at well-respected professional conferences; engaging in the procurement of extramural funds with interdisciplinary teams; participating in departmental, College, and university service as well as engaging in service to one's professional discipline and the larger Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, and North Carolina community.

  • The Faculty of Business seek exceptional candidates who demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching accounting to undergraduate and graduate students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. The following qualifications and skills are required for this position: Applicants must have an earned doctorate degree in accounting or related area (ABDs will be considered but must complete their doctoral degrees by August 15, 2023) from a regionally accredited four-year institution of higher education.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of current accounting standards and CPA evolution plans.
  • Must illustrate an ability to leverage various technologies that engage students in the learning process.
  • Must illustrate willingness to participate in interdisciplinary teaching and research collaborations with professional colleagues at the university, across universities, or within the broader public.
  • Must articulate their commitment to their professional growth and development via engagement in professional organizations and conferences.
  • Must demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills as well as effective interpersonal skills.

  • Individuals with relevant professional accounting experience or certification.
  • Preference will be given to individuals with doctoral degrees from AACSB accredited institutions.
  • Preferred candidates will have a strong background in data analytics.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated ability to mentor undergraduate students in research experiences, internship opportunities, community-service, or study abroad opportunities.

    Teaching and Advising

  • Instructing undergraduate and graduate courses in accounting, which includes face-to-face and online formats.
  • Construct detailed course syllabi.
  • Provide high quality, engaging instruction.
  • Leverage various technologies (e.g., Canvas, EAB Navigate) to enhance student success.
  • Maintain required office hours each week.
  • Serve as an academic advisor.
  • Work collaboratively to enhance the accounting curriculum and co- curricular activities.
  • Scholarship, Research, and Creative Activity

  • Produce scholarly research that results in publications in peer-reviewed journals in the accounting discipline that should be focused on teaching and learning of accounting in higher education.
  • Must present at professional conferences and meetings within the discipline.
  • The ideal candidate will engage in procuring research grants.
  • University, Professional, and Community Service and Engagement

  • Participate consistently in departmental and College meetings.
  • Serve on departmental-, College-, and university-level committees.
  • Maintain membership in discipline-specific professional organizations as needed.
