Position Summary

The UNC University School of Medicine and the Department of Neurology invite applications for a clinician – scientist faculty position at the Assistant Professor level rank on the tenure track. The successful candidate will spend majority of the time (up to 75 %) in research activities and will be expected to establish an externally funded independent research program, provide exemplary mentorship, and engage in productive scientific collaborations. A strong basic and clinical research program in neurodegeneration is desired with the opportunity for robust collaborations with expertise in translational neurodegenerative disease biomarker and neuroimaging research and a strong publication record. The faculty member is expected to develop and maintain an active, extramurally funded research program on development and validation of biomarkers in neurodegenerative diseases. Ability to establish collaborative relationships with foundations and industry partners is highly desired. The Department of Neurology is committed to building infrastructure for clinical and translational research in a broad spectrum of neurodegenerative diseases including Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, and related dementias. The UNC Medical Center is a pre-eminent clinical and research institution in the Research Triangle Region of North Carolina and is dedicated to providing multidisciplinary diagnostic, imaging, and treatment services for patients with neurodegenerative diseases. The faculty member will be expected to deliver outstanding clinical care to outpatients with movement disorders. The faculty member will also be expected to provide high-quality didactic and bedside teaching for medical students, residents, and clinical fellows at UNC Hospitals.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Applicants must have an MD or MD/PhD degree and be board-certified / board- eligible in Neurology.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Competitive candidates will have previous and / or current NIH funding in the area of neurodegeneration. Applicants must be licensed or eligible for medical licensure in the state of North Carolina and be credentialed to practice medicine at the UNC Medical Center.
