NMSU is New Mexico's land-grant and space-grant institution, a comprehensive research institution dedicated to teaching, research, public service and outreach. In addition, the NMSU system includes a satellite learning center in Albuquerque, Cooperative Extension Service offices located in each of New Mexico's 33 counties, and 12 agriculture research and science centers. The City of Las Cruces is the second largest city in New Mexico and is located in Doña Ana County, approximately 45 miles north of El Paso, Texas, and 225 miles south of Albuquerque. Las Cruces is the economic and geographic center of the Mesilla Valley, the agricultural region on the floodplain of the Rio Grande which extends from Hatch to the west side of El Paso, Texas. The Organ Mountains, 10 miles to the east, are dominant in the city's landscape, along with the Doña Ana Mountains, Robledo Mountains, and Picacho Peak. Las Cruces lies within a short driving distance of the Mexican border at Santa Teresa, as well as many other locations in the broader borderland region.

Successful applicants must demonstrate the ability to contribute to the mission of the Department in teaching, research, and service. The specific responsibilities of the position include teaching 9 credit hours per semester of some combination of undergraduate and graduate courses online and on-campus from existing curriculum and new courses created in an applicant's specialty area, student advising/mentoring, conducting scholarship/research, participating in university and community service.

Required Qualifications

Completion of all requirements for a Ph.D. in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or closely related discipline by August 15, 2022. ABDs may apply, but degree must be in hand by the start of employment and a J.D. alone is not sufficient for the position. The area of expertise is open. We are looking for someone whose research specialty is in the area of criminology and criminal justice although we will consider candidates able to complement existing areas of specialty of our multi-disciplinary faculty.

Preferred Qualifications (optional)

We seek exceptional candidates who can teach a variety of criminal justice required courses, including but not limited to policing, juvenile justice, cybercrime/cybersecurity, forensics, or quantitative research methods at the graduate and undergraduate levels, both in person and online. The ability to teach in other areas that enhance and/or complement current departmental strengths is welcomed. The potential for extramural funding is also desirable.
