About the College
Spelman College seeks teacher/scholars dedicated to excellence in teaching and
to the continued enhancement of the academic environment for students and
colleagues. Founded in 1881, Spelman College is a private four-year liberal
arts college located in Atlanta, GA. The oldest historically Black college for
women in the United States, Spelman is a member of the Atlanta University
Center Consortium and Atlanta Regional Consortium for Higher Education.
The Women's Research and Resource Center invites Women's and Gender Studies
applications for a tenure- track position with a focus on public policy at the
rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2022. Candidates should have
teaching experience and a commitment to research in Women's and Gender
studies, coupled with feminist political theory and public policy. Candidates
should be prepared to teach introductory women's studies and upper division
courses in African American and African diaspora in women's domestic and
international policy domains, as well as assist in strengthening the women's
scholar-activism as a component of the Comparative Women's Studies major.
Specialized fields may include gender and politics, public policy or political
participation, and comparative feminist studies. Grant writing experience as
well as evidence of successful research and the potential for publication are
Ph.D. in Women's Studies preferred. Candidates with specialization in women
and politics, public history, feminist science studies or related
interdisciplinary programs such as African American Studies, African Diaspora
Studies, American Studies are highly desirable.
