The Institute of Security and Global Affairs (ISGA) of Leiden University is inviting applications for the position of Assistant Professor. This position is situated within Leiden University's Institute of Security and Global Affairs (ISGA), part of the Faculty of Governance and Global Affairs (FGGA) and based in The Hague.
You will be part of a thriving research and teaching community, that is expanding partially with projects initiated in the national 2022 Social Science Sector Programme.
The Social Sciences, Humanities, Law and Economics Sciences will implement a cross-sectoral plan with a thematic focus on prosperity, participation and citizenship in a digital world. In this domain, the universities want to contribute optimally to answers to fundamental questions and challenges for society.
This position is building on the Programme Social Resilience and Security — an interdisciplinary, interfaculty collaboration, bringing together key expertise on transgressive behaviours across social research disciplines and key societal stakeholders. We team up with researchers from governance, developmental psychology, child studies, clinical psychology, criminal law, archeology, and humanities. One pillar of the project focuses on suicide and suicide prevention; this project seeks to study suicide from psychology, public health, and violence studies perspectives, using a range of methodologies. The Assistant Professor will be a key member of the team. The position involves substantial research assessing risk and resilience in suicide.
The Assistant Professor will take the lead on many aspects of the project. That includes but is not limited to: planning the research, leading the ethics and data reviews, gathering data, independently conducting the analyses, publishing findings, co-authoring scientific output with the other team members, as well as organizing and participating in conferences.
The department is located in The Hague. The candidate must live in (or relocate to) The Netherlands for the duration of the contract.

Terms and conditions The successful candidate will be part of an ambitious and dynamic team. He or she will initially be appointed for one year with the intention to turn the position into a permanent one, based on need, funding and performance. Salary range from € 3.974,- to € 5.439,- gross per month (pay scale 11), in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities.

UTQ Leiden University requires teaching staff to obtain the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ). If the successful applicant does not already possess this qualification or its equivalent, he/ she must be willing to obtain this Qualification within two years.
