Primary Purpose and Essential Functions
The University of the Pacific invites applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) and a three-year renewable Lecturer/Instructor (non-tenure- track) position in Narrative Design. Up to two (2) positions may be available, one (1) tenure track and one (1) non-tenure track.
The College of the Pacific is hiring across multiple fields this year and seeks to bring in a cohort of new faculty to build upon and elevate our existing interdisciplinary focus areas: Environment and sustainability; Law and policy; Physical and mental health and wellness; Communications, art and design. The successful candidate in the Department of Art, Media, Performance and Design (AMPD) will collaborate with colleagues to further develop student-centered programs in one or more of those interdisciplinary areas. In addition to teaching a range of courses within the AMPD Department, the successful candidate will teach in the College's first-year seminar program, develop general education courses with broad appeal, and advance a narrative design curriculum across different media. Our faculty are dedicated teachers, mentors and advisors who value collaboration and who develop innovative pedagogies to enhance student learning in addition to engaging actively in scholarship and service. The BA in Media X is an interdisciplinary major designed for students who are interested in pursuing creative combinations of coursework in subjects such as graphic design, English, business, theater arts, digital and visual art, film studies, communication, computer science and engineering, and music industries. The Department of Art, Media, Performance and Design provides the BFA degree with the concentrations in Art and Graphic Design, and a BA degree in Media X as well as minors in Art History, Graphic Design, Media X, Studio Art, Film Studies and Theater.
The Department of Art, Media, Performance and Design (AMPD) is committed to excellence in undergraduate education, offering future artists, designers, performers and media makers a rewarding program in a personal, supportive and collaborative environment. Our department is integrated within the College of the Pacific's distinctive liberal arts program, the historical hallmark of our university.
Full time tenure track faculty teach a minimum of twenty (20) units (typically 5 courses) per year, advise students, conduct research/creative activities and participate in departmental and program service. One (1) of the classes serves the university first-year program.
Full time non-tenure track faculty teach a minimum of twenty-four (24) units (typically 6-7 courses depending on units) per year, advise students, participate in departmental and program service. Coursework may include foundation, intermediate and advanced courses in art and media. Relevant professional experience is a plus.
The ideal candidates for the Narrative Design positions would demonstrate the ability to teach courses in some of the following areas:, interactive design, game design, filmmaking, VFX/motion graphics, or 3D animation contributing to BA in Media X major.
The College of the Pacific is also conducting searches for tenure-track assistant professors in Biological Sciences; Communication; Health and Exercise Sciences; Media X (multimedia design and production); Psychology; and Sociology. Work Environment/Work Week/Travel: Schedule is dependent on department need.
Hiring Range $72,000 - $75,000 (TT) / $65,000 - $67,000 (NTT) per year. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when Special Instructions
