Primary Purpose and Essential Functions

The University of the Pacific invites applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) and a three-year renewable Lecturer/Instructor (non-tenure- track) position in Narrative Design. Up to two (2) positions may be available, one (1) tenure track and one (1) non-tenure track.

The College of the Pacific is hiring across multiple fields this year and seeks to bring in a cohort of new faculty to build upon and elevate our existing interdisciplinary focus areas: Environment and sustainability; Law and policy; Physical and mental health and wellness; Communications, art and design. The successful candidate in the Department of Art, Media, Performance and Design (AMPD) will collaborate with colleagues to further develop student-centered programs in one or more of those interdisciplinary areas. In addition to teaching a range of courses within the AMPD Department, the successful candidate will teach in the College's first-year seminar program, develop general education courses with broad appeal, and advance a narrative design curriculum across different media. Our faculty are dedicated teachers, mentors and advisors who value collaboration and who develop innovative pedagogies to enhance student learning in addition to engaging actively in scholarship and service. We are excited to welcome new colleagues who are eager to be part of our vibrant academic community and to contribute to the College's growth and development.

The BA in Media X is an interdisciplinary major designed for students who are interested in pursuing creative combinations of coursework in subjects such as graphic design, English, business, theater arts, digital and visual art, film studies, communication, computer science and engineering, and music industries. The Department of Art, Media, Performance and Design provides the BFA degree with the concentrations in Art and Graphic Design, and a BA degree in Media X as well as minors in Art History, Graphic Design, Media X, Studio Art, Film Studies and Theater.
