Job Description

Missouri Western seeks an individual capable of teaching Secondary Education courses at the undergraduate and graduate level. This is a tenure-track position and will teach on-campus courses.

Assistant Professors are responsible to educate students, engage in original research and creative activities that are published or presented in peer- reviewed settings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: • Teaching: teach undergraduate and graduate students in Secondary and General Education courses; participation in programs that promote instructional development in the discipline; develop and manage curricular materials, ensuring that they meet departmental and university standards; participation in campus initiatives related to teaching such as learning communities, honors programs, and applied learning.

• Scholarship: engage in scholarly and creative activities leading to peer- reviewed artifacts, performances, and/or exhibitions including basic research or creative expression, reviews and/or integrates prior research, applies current knowledge and innovations to important practices, and focuses on the nature and improvement of teaching.

• Service: document students' attendance, participation, and academic progress by giving and grading assignments, projects, quizzes and/or examinations that lead to a final grade; plan and create lectures, in-class activities, and assignments; maintain currency in one's area of expertise and discipline; provide academic advising and support related to the academic progress of students; is accessible to students outside the classroom, providing ample periods of time for counseling and mentoring students in matters related to academic success; engage in service activities in support of departmental, college, and university needs; service supporting community outreach; and service to relevant professional organizations; participate in student recruitment efforts as assigned.

• Will also engage in data analysis and program review for continuous improvement and accreditation purposes.

Required Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS :

Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in a related field

Minimum of 3 years of full-time teaching experience in grades 6-12

Interest in building partnerships across campus and with local schools and communities

Appropriate scholarship including publications, conferences, presentations, and/or panels

Ability to use instructional technologies (Content Management System/LMS; Microsoft Office applications) in support of student learning and professional collaboration

Ability to analyze data to inform teaching and program improvement

Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction

Excellent teaching skills with an ability to coordinate with the faculties and students from diverse cultural backgrounds

Strong organizational skills

Ability to multitask

Ability to engage large groups of people with complicated material

Able to teach with appropriate real-world experience

Able to demonstrate confidence teaching and presenting in a public forum

Technologically adept: can utilize electronic communications, online learning management systems, and other forms of technology related to the position

Passionate about specific academic fields and education in general

Clearly understands curriculum design, pedagogy, and learning outcomes assessment

Preferred Qualifications

Teaching experience in higher education

Experience with and commitment to diverse student populations, in P-12 and/or higher education

Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, anti-bias in education

Experience, training, and/or certification in working with students with exceptional abilities

Demonstrated ability to teach secondary methods courses

Experience supervising P-12 teachers or teacher candidates

Experience teaching in face to face and virtual settings

Experience leading graduate capstone or thesis experiences

Experience with CAEP accreditation

Physical Demands

FLSA Exempt Additional Demands

May require some evenings and/or nights. Travel for supervision, recruitment and conferences.
