  • Context

    The European School of Political and Social Science (ESPOL) at the Catholic University in Lille invites applications for a full-time permanent position as a maître / maîtresse de conférences (equivalent to Assistant Professor with tenure)/Full Professor in Development Economics. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to pursue his/her own research while participating in the research development of ESPOL-Lab, the research centre of ESPOL. He/she will teach in the B.A. and M.A. programmes in political science at ESPOL

    ESPOL is a young, diverse, and rapidly growing political science school dedicated to excellence in research and teaching in social and political sciences. Created in 2012, ESPOL offers multidisciplinary, bilingual (English-French) study programmes preparing students to political, European and/or international careers. The Catholic University of Lille, with over 38,000 students, is a multidisciplinary university comprised of five faculties (medicine, law, economics, theology, and humanities), twenty schools and institutes - including ESPOL, six engineering schools; three business and management schools; medical, paramedical, social schools; management schools for the service industry; a Hospital Group – and, in total, some 50 research teams. Collaborative research at ESPOL-LAB, bringing twenty French and foreign researchers together, revolves around three broad thematic areas questioning the contemporary transformation of politics: (1) the ‘Quality of democracy', (2) ‘Reconfigurations of the International', and (3) ‘Politics of the Anthropocene'. Europe is a structuring, cross-cutting dimension of the research in ESPOL for these three research areas.

    Profile

    The candidate must hold a PhD in Economics or a related discipline and should have a proven expertise in at least one of the following subjects: Food politics, agriculture politics, international development, sustainable development, environmental politics. A solid command of both theoretical (game theory, scientific modelling, and other formal methods) and methodological tools (applied econometrics) would be a plus.

    The candidate should have a proven ability to publish in international peer- reviewed journals as well as a good teaching experience. With a view to integration in ESPOL-Lab, the candidates with an interdisciplinary approach in their research are especially invited to apply.

    Missions

    The candidate will develop his/her teaching activities at Bachelor's degree level and in the Food Politics and Sustainable Development Masters' degree. He/she should be able to lead a teaching team, and to teach in English and in French. He/she should offer a medium-term vision of research and teaching on development issues.

    Benefits

    Full-time, permanent contract, position to be filled as of 1 January 2023. Remuneration according to the experience of the candidate. Bonuses for publication and possibilities for career advancement based on research and teaching activities. The Habilitation à diriger des recherches (or equivalent professorial thesis) can lead to a recruitment with the status of Full Professor.
