Applications are invited from those who fulfil the statutory requirements specified in the Higher Education Act from 20th July 2018 (Dz. U. z 2018 r., poz. 1668) and the statutes of the University of Wroclaw.

A post-doc in the Center for the Study of the Ancient World, Faculty of Historical and Pedagogical Sciences, University of Wroclaw within the NCN Maestro project " Epigraphic culture in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East in antiquity: status, display, democracy, identity ". This is basically a quantitative epigraphy project (see: https: // hist.uni.wroc.pl/Instytut-Historyczny/Epigraphy-project/Project…).

The candidate is expected to have:

  • A successful candidate should hold a PhD in classics/ ancient history/ ancient oriental studies, earned not earlier than 2016.
  • A candidate who holds more than one doctoral degree, please be advised that she/he is qualified for this position if the earliest doctoral degree was granted no earlier than 2016.
  • She/he should have a very good knowledge of Greek and be willing to acquire basic epigraphic skills.
  • She/he should have reading ability in relevant modern languages other than English.
  • Please be advised to make sure that you meet the NCN criteria for post-docs in NCN-funded projects (https: // www. ncn.gov.pl/sites/default/files/pliki/uchwaly-rady/2021/uchwala442021-zal1ang.pdf#page=48).
  • Knowledge of the Polish language to a degree enabling conducting classes in this language.
  • Knowledge of the English language to a degree enabling conducting classes in this language.
  • Additionally, the following are highly desirable:

  • Any additional language of the ancient Near East or Latin is a bonus.
  • Preference will be given to a candidate with some experience in epigraphy.
  • Other essential criteria are: publications (journal articles, chapters in edited volumes, books, authored or edited) and conference papers in antiquity studies.
  • Responsibilities at the workplace:

  • The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the study of epigraphic culture in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East. She/he will contribute chapters to collaborative volumes of the project. The PI of the project will assign research tasks to the post-doc.
  • She/he is also expected to participate in conferences.
  • She/he is also expected to publish no less one journal papers for the duration of the project.
  • Apart from doing research, the successful candidate is expected to teach one class (30 hours) per year.
