The Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Rhode Island invites applications for a tenure-track Professor in physical therapy, with an expertise in research and teaching that complements the mission of the Department, College, and University. The position will be an academic year appointment with a start date of August 2022. The Department is located within the College of Health Sciences and is part of the University's Academic Health Collaborative which also includes the Colleges of Pharmacy and Nursing, and the Institute for Integrated Health and Innovation. The well-established Department is recognized for excellence in teaching, research, service, professional leadership, international opportunities for students, strong clinical education partners, and an on-site clinic. Annually, a cohort of 32 students are accepted and taught by a dedicated and experienced faculty. The Program received full (10 year) CAPTE re-accreditation in 2016.

The Physical Therapy Department is located on the Kingston campus in a rural setting just 15 minutes from beautiful ocean and bay beaches. A wide range of outdoor activities are available locally, and the Green and White Mountains are a 3-hour drive away. The University of Rhode Island offers a rich array of cultural and intellectual stimulating events including theatre offerings, music concerts, sports, and the Honors Colloquium. For more options, Providence is 40 minutes north, Boston and Cape Cod are 90 minutes away, and New York City is a 3-hour drive.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will have the ability to develop, lead, and collaborate on lines of research leading to peer-reviewed publications and grant submissions in physical therapy and related areas. This position will have a strong focus on research and securing grant funding to support research and graduate students. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching graduate-level courses in the DPT and PhD in Health Sciences programs and providing service to the Department, College, University, and/or the profession. The successful candidate will also demonstrate experience or potential to engage diverse students in all aspects of teaching, research, and service.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED :

1) A Ph.D. (or equivalent), completed by September 2022.

2) Eligible for physical therapist licensure in Rhode Island.

3) Demonstrated ability to establish an independent line of research and to publish research in relevant, peer-reviewed journals.

4) Demonstrated ability to pursue external funding.

5) Demonstrated teaching ability that complements existing DPT curriculum.

6) Demonstrated proficiency in oral communication skills.

7) Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.

8) Current membership in the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).

9) Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.

PREFERRED:

1) Demonstrated ability to secure external research funding.

2) Demonstrated ability to recruit and support graduate students.

3) Demonstrated ability to participate in collaborative research.

4) Demonstrated interest and/or experience in graduate teaching of contemporary physical therapy professional issues.

5) Demonstrated interest in interdisciplinary teaching.

6) Demonstrated experience in graduate student mentoring.

7) Demonstrated success and/or evidence of promise in obtaining external funding that will support productive research.
