The Department of Theatre and Dance at Texas State University seeks applicants for tenure-track or a non-tenure line faculty of practice position at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor of Lighting Design, starting fall 2022. All positions are subject to availability of funds.

The successful candidate will join a nationally recognized department with a dynamic faculty dedicated to a collaborative and innovative approach to teaching undergraduate and graduate students. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Teach graduate and undergraduate classes in lighting design, Vectorworks, related fields, and/or secondary area of expertise
  • Advise student designers on realized production work
  • Recruit graduate students for MFA program
  • Participate in department season planning
  • Collaborate with the Design, Technology, and Management Area in support of current initiatives and new developments

    Required Qualifications

    Required qualifications for Assistant Professor Rank (Tenure Line):

  • M.F.A. in Theatre Design.
  • Extensive and active record of professional lighting design experience in regional and/or commercial theatre.
  • Strong Vectorworks Skills utilizing industry standard (Schematic, 3D, and Visualization).
  • Required qualifications for Associate Professor Rank (Tenure Line):

  • M.F.A. in Theatre Design.
  • Extensive and active record of professional lighting design experience in regional and/or commercial theatre; minimum of 12 years to be considered for Associate Rank.
  • Strong Vectorworks skills utilizing industry standards (Schematic, 3D, and Visualization).
  • Required qualifications for Assistant Professor of Practice Rank:

  • A minimum of 10 years beyond entry level professional lighting design experience that includes primary design positions on productions.
  • Extensive and active record of professional lighting design experience in regional and/or commercial theatre productions.
  • Strong Vectorworks skills utilizing industry standards (Schematic, 3D, and Visualization)
  • Required qualifications for Associate Professor of Practice Rank:

  • A minimum of 15 years beyond entry level professional lighting design experience that includes primary design positions on productions.
  • Extensive and active record of professional lighting design experience in regional and/or commercial theatre productions.
  • Strong Vectorworks skills utilizing industry standards (Schematic, 3D, and Visualization)
  • The successful applicant will receive the appropriate rank and title based on university and school established standards.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Secondary Design area experience in Projection Design and/or Scenic Design;
  • Graduate and Undergraduate Teaching Experience;
  • Demonstrated record of mentorship of students and/or assistant designers;
  • Demonstrated record of successful collaboration;
  • Experience in non-theatrical applications of design; and
  • Experience utilizing latest lighting technologies.
