We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic researcher to join our laboratory for a 2-year position to commence 1 April 2022. The position aims to generate semi-synthetic acid-sensing ion channels to investigate their structure and function using electrophysiology and fluorometry. Our research The project will focus on the intracellular conformational landscape of human acid-sensing channels (ASICs). The project is part of a highly interdisciplinary effort to identify ASIC structure and function in real time and in living cells. The work requires interfacing with a number of national and international collaborators and is based in the Pless laboratory, which provides dynamic and diverse research environment focused on the functional and pharmacological investigation of ion channels. The group has a balanced gender and age composition, incl. numerous international researchers from a variety of backgrounds.

Your job We strive to conduct world-class ion channel research using cutting-edge technologies. Your tasks would include chemical biology (protein trans splicing), voltage- and patch-clamp fluorometry, molecular biology (PCR, site-directed mutagenesis, chimera generation) and electrophysiology (both patch-clamp and two-electrode voltage clamp electrophysiology). The position would further require teaching and supervision duties.

The assistant professor's responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • participation in formal pedagogical training program for assistant professors
  • Profile We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

    Essential experience and skills:

  • You have a PhD in Biochemistry
  • You are highly experienced in electrophysiology (patch clamp and two- electrode voltage clamp), molecular biology, cell culture, biochemistry, voltage- and patch-clamp fluorometry and protein-engineering
  • You have an active interest in ligand-gated ion channels, in particular with regards to the dynamics of their molecular structure and function.
  • You have pre- and postgraduate teaching experience within pharmacology and electrophysiology, incl direct supervision of MSc students
  • Outstanding communication skills and ability to work in teams
  • International experience
  • First-author publications in leading international journals
  • Excellent English skills written and spoken
  • Desirable experience and skills:

  • First-author publications of primary research projects in high-impact journals, in addition to reviews
  • You have +5 years of experience working in academic research environment
  • Extensive international experience, evidence for cross-disciplinary collaborations and symposia organisation
  • Successful applications for competitive fellowships and grants
  • Place of employment The place of employment is at Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology, University of Copenhagen.     Terms of employment The employment as assistant professor is a full time and fixed-term position for 2 years. Starting date is 1 April 2022 (or as soon as possible thereafter).

    Salary, pension and terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Currently, the monthly salary starts at 36,853.98 DKK/ approx. 4,954 Euro (October 2021-level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

    Non-Danish and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.

    The position is covered by the “Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at the Universities” of 19 December 2020.
