The Department of Fine Arts at Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida
invites applications for a full-time, continuing track position of Assistant
Professor of Theatre, beginning in August 2021.
The Fine Arts Department offers the undergraduate degrees in Studio Art, Art
History, Graphic Design and Photography in the Visual Arts and Music, Theatre
and a Dance Minor in the Performing Arts.
This full-time Assistant Professor of Theatre teaches undergraduate courses in
Theatre; provides academic advising and mentoring to undergraduate students,
including directing and supervising of undergraduate productions; contributes
to departmental, college, university and professional service; and engages in
The Assistant Professor of Theatre faculty position has an emphasis on
academic study of theatre, including history, dramatic theory, acting,
directing, stage combat, voice and movement and period styles.
Additionally, candidates with experience in non-traditional theatrical
forms (devised, environmental and theatre for social change) are
welcomed. Basic level knowledge of technical theatre is also welcomed.
This position is a full-time, nine-month appointment to begin August 15,
2021 , with teaching assignments of 4 courses per semester or equivalent
and the possibility of directing a departmental production in lieu of one
course. An additional five office hours are required per week.
The successful applicant will help develop curriculum for the Theatre
program and participate in curriculum and program review and evaluation.
The ideal candidate would engage students in performance and offer
academic advising, supervision of special projects, departmental service,
university service, community service, and sustained scholarship.
Experience with developing and teaching distance courses is welcome.
The position requires an MFA in Acting/Directing.
Candidates given strongest consideration will have experience teaching
acting/directing at the college level, across a range of acting styles and

Further qualifications should include three years of teaching at the
college level in Theatre Arts or a related field. Candidates should also
possess interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively within an
increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues.
