The Department of Engineering Education (DEE) and the Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (IAD) at the University at Buffalo (UB) invites candidates to apply for the position of Assistant Professor of Teaching (Lecturer) for the Data Science MS program. We are particularly looking for candidates who can operate effectively in a team environment and in a diverse community of students and faculty and share our vision of helping all constituents reach their full potential.
Primary duties are teaching courses at the graduate master's level and advising these students. Other duties may include industry internships and experiential learning; student excellence initiatives; accreditation objectives; diversity enhancement; and external educational grant support. We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience teaching courses in statistical learning and data mining, database fundamentals, and related data models and queries.
IAD is an interdisciplinary collaboration among six UB schools: the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences; the College of Arts and Sciences; the School of Management; the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences; the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences; and the School of Public Health and Health Professions. IAD offers: a doctoral program in Computational and Data-Enabled Sciences and Engineering; a Professional Master's degree in data science and applications; a Master's degree in engineering science with a focus on data science and a Master's degree in engineering science with a focus on artificial intelligence. IAD also coordinates undergraduate courses in data science topics. IAD is also home to interdisciplinary research efforts of faculty from various disciplines that are invested in the common theme of developing techniques and tools for AI, data science, and computational modeling and simulations as well as their application in diverse domain settings. The primary responsibility of this position is in the MS in engineering science with a focus on data science.

The awe-inspiring Niagara Falls is just 20 minutes away. The department is located on the UB North Campus in suburban Amherst, an area that combines outstanding public schools and services with a surprisingly low cost-of- living.

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants should have a PhD degree in data science, computer science, computational sciences, applied mathematics, statistics, or a related field. Degree must be conferred prior to appointment.

The cover letter should explicitly include the number of semester/quarters as a lead course instructor. When selected for interview referees will be emailed to upload their reference letter.
