Primary Purpose of Position
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at North Carolina Agricultural
and Technical State University in Greensboro, North Carolina invites
applications for a 9-month, tenure-track assistant professor position in
Statistics. The department encourages persons from all areas of statistics to
apply but is particularly interested in applicants with research interests and
expertise in one or more of the following research areas: survey sampling,
nonparametric statistics, computational statistics, and statistics education

Mathematics and Statistics is an academic unit within the College of Science
and Technology, seeking to provide undergraduate and graduate students with an
inviting environment that inspires them to become leaders in their fields and
areas of expertise. The Department of Mathematics & Statistics offers degree
programs in Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics and Data
Science, and Mathematics Secondary Education at the B.S. level, Applied
Mathematics at the M.S. level, and a doctoral concentration in Data Science
and Analytics within the multidisciplinary PhD program in Applied Science and
Technology. The Department also offers two minor programs in Applied
Mathematics and Mathematics Secondary Education, and an undergraduate
certificate program in Data Science and Analytics, and is a major contributor
to an online graduate certificate program in Data Analytics offered by the
Graduate College. In terms of student credit hours taught, it is, as befits a
STEM oriented university, the largest department in the College of Science and
Ph.D. in Statistics or Biostatistics; and experience and a track record
indicating excellent potential to conduct research, obtain extramural funding,
advise students, and experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses is

Preference given to those whose research expertise and interests lie in one or
more of the areas of survey sampling, nonparametric statistics, computational
statistics, and statistics education research. Postdoctoral experience or
university teaching and/or statistical consulting experience is desirable.
Strong statistical data analysis and programming skills is a plus.
Additionally, applicants must show strong research potential and commitment to
excellence in teaching, learning and student success. Research productivity
beyond the doctoral dissertation is expected.
