The Spanish Section of the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures
invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant
professor. Although the primary scholarly focus in modern Latin American
literature and culture is open, the faculty member may specialize in one or
more of the following areas: race and ethnicity; Afro-Latin America;
indigenous studies; and/or gender and sexuality. Individuals from historically
under-represented groups are also encouraged to apply. As an assistant
professor of Spanish within the Department of Romance Languages and
Literatures, the successful candidate will be a core member of the Latin
American Studies Program and will also have the opportunity to participate
fully in the rich interdisciplinary culture of Wesleyan University, including
the Center for the Humanities and the Center for Global Studies. The
University offers excellent support for research and pedagogical innovation.
PhD in Spanish, Latin American Literature, or a related field in hand by the
time of appointment; native or near-native fluency in Spanish.
Teaching load is 2/2: two advanced seminars taught in Spanish and two
(intermediate-advanced) language, literature, and culture courses.
