The National College of Education of National Louis University (NLU) is pleased to announce its search for an Assistant Professor of School Psychology and seeks nominations and applications. This is a full-time, renewable Professional Practice track position (non-tenure) beginning as early as September 1, 2021. Funds to support a supplemental summer stipend beginning August 1, 2021 are also available.

The School Psychology Program is a NASP-accredited program in the dynamic Chicago area. Our student body is racially and ethnically diverse with more than 40% of students from racially, ethnically and linguistically underrepresented groups in the field of school psychology. The Program itself focuses on preparing school psychologists in contemporary roles as problem solvers who use direct and indirect research-based interventions to improve outcomes for all PK-12 students.

Primary Responsibilities

The Assistant Professor will:

  • Take a leadership role in developing and supporting clinical field experiences, including practica and internships for Ed.S students in School Psychology

  • Teach courses in the School Psychology Program

  • Advise and direct Ed.S. students

  • Provide service to the School Psychology profession and the National College of Education

  • This faculty role will focus on teaching and field supervision responsibilities; and also includes expectation of service to the institution. Applied scholarship activity is encouraged though not required. Possible courses include practices and principles of school psychology, methods of research-based interventions, consultation, and school based mental health. This is a full- time faculty appointment, although consideration may be given to highly qualified part-time applicants experienced in delivering high- quality contemporary school psychology services in PK-12 settings.

    Required qualifications include:

  • Earned doctorate in School Psychology or commensurate credentials and experience required

  • Candidates must hold a license in School Psychology or be license-eligible through the Illinois State Board of Education

  • Experience in meeting the academic, behavioral and social emotional needs of schools, teachers, parents, and students through research-based practices

  • Demonstrated skill in supervision of field-based school psychologists

  • Demonstrated experience in MTSS service delivery in PK-12 settings

  • Record of teaching experience at the university level

  • Preferred candidates will have a record of excellent teaching skills within a school psychology graduate education program, strong clinical experience working within school settings, strong clinical supervision and mentorship skills to practicum and internship students, and the ability to develop and maintain relationships with field supervisors across the region.

    Preference will be given to candidates who have:

  • Nationally Certified School Psychology (NCSP) status

  • Graduate of NASP or APA approved School Psychology program

  • Experience in Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) or other behavior support service delivery models

  • PK-12 district level school psychologist supervisory or department chair experience

  • Experience in urban PK-12 school settings strongly preferred

  • Leadership experience within school psychology local, state or professional associations
