The Department of Psychology at Angelo State University is inviting applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Counseling Psychology for a 9-month position beginning August 2023. The Counseling Psychology program currently has an established Master of Science in Counseling Psychology and a Doctor of Psychology in Counseling Psychology (Psy.D.) program beginning fall 2022.

We are seeking applicants qualified to teach doctoral level graduate courses in counseling psychology, with an emphasis on science-based and empirically- supported treatments. Specifically, we are searching for applicants who have strong assessment competency and an interest in teaching multiple assessment- based courses per semester (e.g., psychological assessment, intellectual and achievement testing, or personality assessment). Area of research is open, and will ideally complement research areas of the ASU counseling psychology faculty. Applicants who are ABD will be considered if the degree can be completed within the first year of appointment. We also encourage applicants who are in practice and are interested in joining academia. Employment begins no later than August, 2023. Review of applications will begin in September 2022 and continue until the position is filled.

Typical Duties/Job Duties

  • Teaching undergraduate courses and graduate courses within the Counseling Psychology masters and doctoral programs.
  • Graduate courses in counseling psychology are offered in the afternoon or evening times.
  • Providing student mentorship, conduct research in areas of their expertise and interest, and provide service to the Counseling Psychology programs, the department, and the university.
  • Assist with the APA accreditation process for the Psy.D. program
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience or shows promise to teach doctoral level graduate courses in counseling psychology with an emphasis on science and empirically- supported treatments.
  • Expertise and enthusiasm for teaching courses in psychological assessment, intellectual/achievement testing, and personality assessment.
  • Applicants should have the necessary skills, expertise, and interest in university teaching and conducting research within a doctoral counseling psychology program, with the ability to provide training and supervision with clinical/counseling skills needed for student-practitioners desiring to become licensed.
  • The PsyD program utilizes a practitioner-scientist training model and the Masters uses a scientist-practitioner model.
  • Minimum Qualifications

  • A doctoral degree in Counseling, Clinical, or School Psychology, or related field from an APA accredited psychology program.
  • ABD will be considered if the doctorate can be completed within one year.
  • Currently a licensed psychologist (in Texas or another state with the ability to transfer their license) or eligible to become licensed as a psychologist in Texas within the first three years of hire.
  • Show a strong scholarship potential and strong teaching and supervisory skills.
  • Area of research expertise is open, and will ideally complement research areas of the ASU counseling psychology faculty.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference will be given to those who have a doctoral degree from an APA- accredited program in Counseling, Clinical, or School psychology, licensed as a psychologist, have experience administering and supervising various psychological assessments, and have taught graduate psychological assessment courses.
