Applications are now being accepted at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for an assistant professor of practice in Pre-School through 12th grade (P-12) school leadership in the Department of Educational Administration (EDAD). The position will be focused on serving students in the P-12 Masters in Education (M.Ed.)/principal endorsement and Doctor of Education (Ed.D.)/superintendent endorsement programs, with a particular emphasis on the superintendency.

The mission of the Educational Administration Department (EDAD) is to develop educational leaders who understand education from a systems perspective; challenge the way educational organizations reproduce structural inequities; integrate research, policy, theory, and meaningful practice to serve the needs of diverse communities; and enhance equity, inclusion, and effectiveness in education through sustainable improvement. Therefore, we seek a candidate who can contribute a unique perspective to our team and who can contribute to our mission by teaching in our hybrid (online and face to face) masters and doctoral programs; advising masters and doctoral students, supervise Ed.D. dissertations; supervising administrative internships; collaborate with our M.Ed. and Ed.D. communities of practice; and actively engage with P-12 schools, governing bodies, Educational Service Units (ESUs), and other stakeholders. The person selected for this position will work closely to enact curriculum changes in the Ed.D. program around improvement science, change leadership, and equity and social justice. We desire an effective leader who can deliver high-quality graduate instruction aligned with Nebraska and national standards and our departmental mission and goals. The selected candidate will bring a district/and/or systems-level practitioner's perspective and collaborate with a dynamic and award-winning faculty comprised of expert researchers and practitioners, and highly motivated students from across Nebraska and the globe. We are particularly interested in rounding out our expertise with an individual who has experience in rural and/or small districts.

The Department of Educational Administration has been a part of the University of Nebraska- Lincoln for more than 100 years. Initially, our focus was solely on the preparation of administrators for elementary and secondary schools. Our commitment to the preparation of P- 12 administrators continues with our online M.Ed. ranked #12 in the nation by U.S. News and World Report in 2020. Our programs have steadily expanded to include higher education. The early 1990's saw the addition of the doctoral specialization in Educational Leadership and Higher Education. In 2000 the Department added a master's degree specialization in Student Affairs Administration and a graduate certificate in community college leadership in 2006. In 2022, the department will relaunch our Educational Doctorate with a focus on improvement science, change leadership, and equity and social justice. Our unique department integrates research, policy, theory, and meaningful practice to serve the needs of diverse communities.

The Department is actively engaged with the University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA), the Carnegie Project on the Educational Doctorate (CPED), the Nebraska Council of School Administrators, and other stakeholder groups and coalitions locally, statewide, and beyond.

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate (Ed.D. or Ph. D) in Educational Administration/Leadership, or a related field.
  • Hold or be eligible for a district-level administrative endorsement or equivalent.
  • Evidence of successful leadership of equity change initiatives at district-level or systems-level (e.g. efforts to close achievement gaps, improve student outcomes, increase opportunities for students; and build district and school capacity for improvement).
  • Leadership experience including superintendency, associate superintendency, educational service unit, department of education, or equivalent.
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with a team of professionals.
  • Evidence of strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Evidence of mentoring of educators and educational leaders.
  • Demonstrated understanding/experience with the challenges and opportunities facing rural and smaller schools/districts.
  • Experience teaching graduate level courses (including online), in the areas of educational organizations, school/district/regional leadership, P-12 education.
  • Experience with local/state/national policy development and advocacy.
  • Demonstrated capacity to develop and sustain relationships and partnerships with educational stakeholders.
  • Service in state and national educational organizations.
  • Knowledge of the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate (CPED).
