The Department of Pediatrics at the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) is seeking a researcher with specialization in nutrition and dietetics to serve as an Assistant Professor , shared between Adolescent Medicine and the Center for Pediatric Adolescent Comparative Effectiveness Research (PACER). This is a tenure track faculty position and will be focused on research, growing a robust independent research portfolio as a principal investigator.

The Center for Pediatric and Adolescent Comparative Effectiveness Research (PACER), within the Department of Pediatrics at IUSM, began in 2013 as an outgrowth of the Children's Health Services Research program (CHSR) (see below). The purpose of PACER is to: (1) Build infrastructure to expand our research capacity into pediatric subspecialties, (2) Establish a rigorous research program at IUSM that is focused on patient- centered outcomes (PCOR) and comparative effectiveness research (CER), (3) Build capacity and training for faculty who will engage in CER/PCOR in pediatric subspecialties, and (4) Develop methods for incorporating findings into the larger health care system. PACER is comprised of four “Cores” that function in a collaborative, integrated fashion. The four cores are 1) Faculty Mentorship/Development, 2) Patient Engagement, 3) Informatics, and 4) Implementation Sciences. The Center also includes centralized administrative and research support functions such as biostatistics, data management, data collection, and financial management. These four cores have significant overlap, and feed off of each other, with many junior faculty members making use of all four cores as they develop skills and engage in CER/PCOR, while others may only utilize of a specific core for their work. A $5 million, five- year grant (R24HS022434) from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality provided initial support for PACER.

The division of Adolescent Medicine and PACER are both located within the Health Information and Translational Sciences building (HITS) at IUSM. Completed in 2007, the 166,000 square-foot building also houses Biostatistics, the Center for Bioethics, Medical Informatics, and Genetics, facilitating ongoing and additional collaborative research.

The Indiana University School of Medicine is comprised of 26 academic departments that cover basic science and clinical science areas of medicine. As of June 2020, there were 679 externally-funded primary investigators on the IUSM campus. IUSM currently hosts 14 research centers or program projects supported by PHS/NIH or other federal funds, as well as at least 19 supported by non- federal funds. As of June 2020, there were 11 T32, two T35, one R25, one CTSI- based (TL1), four HRSA, 13 F-series, and 37 K-series federally-funded training programs and grants at IUSM.

The Department of Pediatrics is based in the Riley Hospital for Children. It has 360 faculty members with a strong research program. Research is primarily conducted in the Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research and the Health Information and Translational Sciences Building, which are home to 58 Department of Pediatrics investigators (40 basic science investigators and 18 HSR/Human translational research/information science investigators). Pediatric faculty research programs have achieved national recognition and have an outstanding record for attaining peer-reviewed, external research funding totaling approximately $76 million in 2020, including funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the American Heart Association, and the Department of Defense. In 2020, The Department of Pediatrics at IUSM has over $32.4 million in NIH funding ranking 6th among medical schools in the nation and 3rd among public institutions.
