The Division of Education, Health and Leadership at Southern Oregon University (SOU) is seeking candidates for a full-time, nine month, tenure-track, Assistant Professor in ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­Health and Exercise Science. Initial appointment at the rank of assistant professor requires a terminal degree or ABD from an accredited institution in an exercise or health sciences field such as Exercise Physiology, Clinical Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, Exercise and Sport Science, Sport Nutrition or similar fields of study.

Teaching responsibilities include coursework in exercise physiology as it relates to assessment, chronic disease and athletic performance and may include online courses.

Other responsibilities include advising, research, collaborative curriculum development and program assessment, oversite of the exercise physiology lab, community outreach and networking, project supervision, professional affiliations as appropriate, and other responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Initial appointment at the rank of assistant professor requires a terminal degree or ABD from an accredited institution in an exercise or health sciences field such as Exercise Physiology, Clinical Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, Exercise and Sport Science, Sport Nutrition or similar fields of study. • Applicants should have at least one year of experience teaching in higher education. • Applicants should provide documented evidence of teaching excellence and scholarly activities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Two or more years of teaching in higher education teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students. Candidates with a background in clinical exercise and sport science disciplines with considerable laboratory experience will be preferred. • Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching and supervising graduate students, including students from diverse backgrounds.

• Candidates with a strong teaching background and those who demonstrate a history of working with local and regional communities to support sport performance, health and wellness are preferred.
